Taken from our trip to The London Butterfly House which is sadly closing on Sunday.
I hope i have the ID right on this Butterfly.

Blue Glassy Tiger (Ideopsis vulgaris)
This is a butterfly that is found in India and belongs to the Crows and Tigers, which is the Danaid group of the Brush-footed butterflies family.
Several other tiger species are similar in appearance.

The Danaid larvae often feed on plants containing poisons and unpalatable substances. Instead of eliminating or detoxifying these chemicals, they store them in their body fluids and retain them as adult butterflies. The male adult also stores poisons from plants such as Heliotropium indicum and Crotalaria pallida.
When captured, the insects first line of defence is to emit odorous chemicals that encourage the predator to release it. The butterfly also fakes death when captured, most avian predators will not consume a butterfly that is already dead. If captured and swallowed, butterfly toxins act quickly to induce vomiting in the birds. The poison concentration is not lethal but leaves a lasting impression on the predator.

Because of their tough and leathery bodies, Danaids are difficult to kill and have a remarkable ability to fly away after a bird has attacked.

Hi Nicholas.
Superb work of Minolta, Tamron and, of course, yours. Terrific clearness of the paints, amazing crisp details and sharpness, wonderful BG. Lighting and colours are fantastic. Only I cannot understand how you managed reached so large DOF using open aperture. In any case, perfect, impressed picture. Bravo.
P.S. You may see WS to my last post.

Hi Nick,

I am sure you will miss the Butterfly House. Such a shame that it is closing. Beautiful butterfly in a wonderful position on the leaf. Excellent colors and fine details with a nice blurred background.
