Did You Know?
In the past people used to eat ladybirds to cure toothache! They believed that the oily yellow fluid in their bodies was a good pain killer!

Ladybirds ... Latin name: Coccinella 7-punctata

Size: Approximately 6mms long

Special features: Ladybirds are insects of the beetle family. People don't much like insects, and beetles are generally even less popular. For this reason the rather likeable ladybird beetles are simply called ladybirds.

Gardeners love them because they eat all the pests which damage plants and flowers.

Software: Adobe Photoshop CS Windows

Breathtaking, Stephen! I remember your perfect landscapes pictures - your macro have got same mood. Perfection in every inch! Composition, colours and moment! Probably everyone took few common pictures of Ladybugs but yours is far better that I've ever saw! Masterpiece.

Unfortunatelly PT.

Everything is just perfect in this shot.
Composition, detail and colours are spot on.
A very nice capture.
Great work,indeed!
Very interesting fact about the toothache cure too!

Superbe photo Stephen !
Très belles couleurs et très bons contrastes.
Felicitations !

Faboulous work. Maybe the best Ladybirds shot I have seen, for my modest opinion. I enjoyed very much. A favourite.

Excellent shot! Two relatively common species, but the juxtaposition is anything but common... I particularly love the warm tones in this shot, and the suitably shallow DOF. About the only thing I find marginally distracting are the reflections on the nearest ladybird's wings - they make it appear fractionally less sharp than the other one. Maybe desaturate cyan/blue and see whether that has any effect? Anyway, that's just a minor nit - it's a brilliant capture :-D

Extraordinairement beau!
La composition est merveilleuse!
La texture de la fleur est parfaite et que dire de la lumière.
Bravo, c'est une très belle réussite!

Excelent capture worthy of publishing, even cover perhaps ... Its a very romanticised mixture of the ladybug couple mingling on the puffy dandelion ( Taraxacum off.) pleasantly cropped against a warm background , its really a good job !

Stunning macro, Stephen. Razor-sharp details. Gorgeous colors. Excellent composition. Congratulations!

Nature meets art here! You've composed a beautiful image with two subjects nearly everybody can find in a garden. Light is perfect to enhance all details and colors. I specially like the way you've managed the POV to get bugs and plant edge on the same level, in the adequate DOF range, giving sharp bugs and a beautiful sharp plant edge. Great composition, Stephen.

tres jolie composition que tu nous montre la.
les couleurs et les details sont exellent.

How cruel to use such pretty insects. They should have brushed their teeth to avoid toothache instead. The composition is just superb and the details and colours are outstanding.
Unfortunately I've run out of smilies today.
Regards Toni

Stephen - Picture perfect!! Excellent use of your 18-55mm with exceptional DOF..Well done.

magnific composition and focus, great shot

Hi Stephen. A fine image that says a lot. Perfect colours and exposure. Leaving the bright background has worked to help the subject to stand out. Regards, Rob

Very, very good, I love the fact you can see some reflection off of the nearest Ladybird's shell. Great picture, well done :)

Another fantastic shot, the depth of field here is perfect, it gives it an almost surreal effect and retains a lot of detail as well as showing texture. An excellent composition, great shot.

simply wonderful photo w/ a feel good effect. excellent color and sharpness. very interesting note also. tfs. jes

Che dire............ sono senza parole!

Beautiful color capture. Excellent macro finish. In my opinion, the symmetry could have been adjusted a little bit more, and I am sure you still would have not missed out the action.

Hi Stephen,
Beautiful photo. Well done and TFS

Great Stephen

what can I say ...WOW

What a wonderful shot! I like the way the soft white of the dandelion seed heads contrasts with the vibrant colours of the ladybirds, the warm tones of the seeds themselves and the background. The DOF is perfect and the image nicely sharp. TFS.

Hi Stephenm

Amazing clarity and sharpness. Lovely composition. The ladybirds right in the middle of the flower with flaky petals is very good. TFS.

best regards

WOW, awesome macro!

Loved the light, the colors, the details.
