|Not sure what type of fly or flower.|
I like the sharpness and detail of the fly.
Welcome to TN. Yes, it is a fly, but it is also a very nice close-up picture of nature with a few hidden gems as mariki has pointed out. You have got some fantastic detail on the fly, which is in very good focus and the green background is an excellent plain canvas for this study. This picture has much more potential than I think you gave it. I think some small inprovements can be made, and I have tried a workshop to show you what I mean. This was done in Photoshop, but if you don't have that, there are other cheaper programmes that will do the same thing (like Corel PhotoPaint, for example).
I have a D80 as well, but I don't normally use a lens as long as yours. As pictures for TN are inevitably resized down a lot, I now try to use shorter focal lengths, to get better depth of field, and then crop down quite a lot. This may be something you could try if the pictures are primarily for the web rather than for printing.
Hope this is all useful. Thanks

Do not say that here! There are so many species of flies! And if you look at your flower, there are so many other insects inside!
Nice picture. Good POV. Sharpness is good also.
