The fine December light makes this one!
The muted colours are very attractive, and the tad of frost tells the story of the season...
A well balanced composition, lovely reflections in the little stream!

looks a bit cold Paul...well maybe a lot cold...but the water is not frozen. Colours are artistically well done. Not sure how you see in this way but you do and it is pleasurable. Some say the same as to my images...not sure how I see a certain way. Interesting..I am going to be thinking about this notion...

I can see the place to get the minnows and a few sticklebacks I would guess as well..on the undercut on the fg bank and the undercut on the bg bank?
Its a magical place that holds memories for you and reminds me of a similar place where I had such great fun as a kid!
Its a lovely scene you have here...no photo comments needed!
I hope you can make the chance to get yourself back there one day..I have been lucky enough to make the move back to my childhood country and Im not budging!!
I wish you a very Happy Christmas and a New Year that gives you the opportunities you want.

Fine frosty landscape shot with a great perspective and superb lighting and colours. The curvature of the stream and the sky refklected in its water forms agoo part of the composition.
Though the grass in the FG forms a fine bit of the internal frame, I feel it is a little too stretched and might be better cropped off, but that's just my opinion and a small point in an other wise fine landscape shot.
Thanks for sharing and best wishes for Christmas and the New Year.

Thank you for the holiday wishes. I hope it is a nice holiday for you too... with some good photography weather. We are going to have rain, and then some rain, followed by rain. : P
I like your photo a lot Paul.I like the golden sunlight moving through the image on the diagonal. All the colors are nice. I love the sharp foreground element and the water leading deep into the scene. Very nice work.

Beautiful light and landscape well captured by your talented eye. The water is getting hard around the calm edge, frost on the grass, makes this image a bit moody. Merry Christmas Paul and nothing but the best in the New Year.

Excellent work Paul..I've got places at the Lampasas River here that look somewhat similar, and I've been meaning to get off my arse & go..It's that very early, or very late in the day thing ;}
A great composition with very good depth, light, details, etc.
I like how you've picked up that tree-line reflection in the stream too :)

One last critique or me today...it's Christmas eve and unlike any other day, i pretty much only wrote very few - to the members i feel closest to right now.
Sorry...i can't help it...no matter if it's a nice and moody winter landscape, or if it's Christmas...i can't help it: the first time i saw this picture i said to myself "what a great habitat!" Maybe i should take a break from all this biology...
Anyway, as i was saying, this really is a a wonderful moody landscape and another lovely shot from that charming sunny morning.
I very much like the way you composed this one - with the frosty moss and plants in the FG, the terrific "S" shaped stream leading the eye and with those pointy vertical arrows - the firs - in the BG. All these pieces look so nice next to each other.
I also like your choice of DOF as well as the effect of the polarizer that absorbed the entire reflection from the water and revealing that beautiful mosaic from the riverbed.
I can see you had to fight some difficult lighting here - pointing the camera in that direction. I'm sure the filters helped you a bit with that but i can't help thinking that if you would go right there on say an evening and take the same composition only with some small sunset clouds moved by the winds and therefore drawing only some lines in the sky, then this might turn into a real masterpiece...?? :)
Anyway, it's still a great shot and i must congratulate you for it.
I also want to profit from this occasion and wish you and all your loved ones a warm and sincere Merry Christmas and also the best of everything of what the world has to offer in the year to come!
Happy holidays! and TFS my friend

I wasn't able to get out on Thursday, had to settle for Friday morning which was just not the same at all. I sat in my car in a traffic jam watching the sunrise instead, cursing that I could not get to my camera and tree...
Anyhow, don't you just love winter sunrises and light? great shot.

Simply amazing view and outstanding reproduction of the scene. Unusual and fine colour palette, impressive vertical framing and composition, terrific reproduction of the ground, water surface and trees on the BG. Bravo. Great art job.

I think you are an artist.I always saw movies and they showed movie directors wandering around with their hands forming a frame and looking through at landscapes for the next scene or take.I some how imagine you mentally doing this too.To capture all these beautiful scenes, you must have a well developed area of your brain that handles spatial recognition.
Excellent POV and DOF.
The focus is sharp with wonderful detail.
The morning light is beautiful.
The water and reflections are superb.
