Not quite the sort of reminder you would want eh? ;)

These guys are found in just a few weeks of summer in late July and early August!

I hope you like this one :)

Common red soldier beetle - Rhagonycha fulva - Family: Cantharidae

This very common soldier beetle has a red body, with orange wing cases with black tips and black antennae. These beetles are frequent visitors to very open-structured flowers such as daisies or members of the carrot family eg hogweed and angelica. Here, they feed on nectar and pollen but also prey on other insects which are visiting the flowers and spend much of their time mating.

Soldier beetles are very soft-bodied compared with other beetles. Their larvae resemble small velvety caterpillars and live at the base of long grass. The adults of this species are found in just a few weeks of summer in late July and early August.

Predatory on other flower-visiting insects and will take nectar and pollen. The larvae are predatory on ground-dwelling invertebrates, including slugs and snails.

Fool's parsley, Hogweed, Pignut, Rough chervil, Wild angelica

Beetles, Bugs, Flies

Cheers :D

Hello Joe,
Excellent macro of a pair of Soldier beetles doing what is natural for the summer season. Excellent sharpness, details and composition against an OOF natural BG.
Well done and TFS!

Well according to "Doctor Ruth" I am certainly not too old to remember:-)... a very natural insect way of creation...or recreation. Up close even back then and spot on focus-wise. Excellent notations and such as are your way kind sir!

Hi Joe,
nice detailed close up, could possibly have done with a little more DoF, well controlled exposure and good colour.

Hello Joe,
a splendid composition and nice contrasts to show us this couple of Cantharides. Resolution, focus and sharpness are pretty good. Depth of field is a bit narrow.
Best wishes, Peter

Super sharp details on this scene full of summer colors. A welcome respite from the gray tones surrounding us right now, even in sunny California.
Perfect POV and great composition.
Best wishes to you and your family for a Happy 2008!

salut Joe,
bien vu cette macro dans ce moment intimiste, la composition est bien travaillée tout comme l'association des couleurs. Dommage pour le mouvement des antennes.

Hi Joe!
Perfect picture to remind a summer period! Very optimistic also because of "lovely pose" ;) You kept colourds and DOF in very nice way, and the profile POV is also nice for watching.
All the best from Lodz!
