[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Burrowing Owl, (Athene cunicularia), photographed at the Cotswold Wildlife Park in Oxfordshire. Despite it being a very cold very dull grey day, this owl was sat out on his perch in what little light there was, with the area behind him in deep shadow. It was a simple matter to set the exposure for the owl, and let the background go dark, using the spot metering.

Burrowing Owl, native of North and South America, usually found in drier regions with low vegetation, such as prairies, grassland, farm land. They usually nest and roost in burrows, such as those dug by Prairie Dogs.

Hi Miles,
these owls are so great to see. I can see they are related to the Eurasian Little owl. This one is well captured, with a pleasant dark background which makes the bird stand out well. Funny pose on one leg.
Regards, Jacob

Hello Miles,
Beautiful owl standing on one leg with crispy sharpness and details. I like the pair of those sparkling eyes looking straight to your lens. Immaculate work on this post. Brilliant!!!

Fine shot of this owl Miles!
Lighting, detail, pose, eye contact, etc are all excellent.
Well done

Hi Miles
That's a cracker - just perfect!
What's kind of park is Cotswold Wildlife Park? Are animals free or like in zoo?

Stunning shot Miles!
I often go to Cotswold and have tried to photograph this many times but never as good as this! You got over the problem of shooting through mesh superbly!
Great metering to darken that BG... I must try spot metering it next time!
Very sharp and detailed.
I love the pose with it standing on one leg :)
Well done Miles,

Hi Miles

A splendid and rather interesting (funny) capture of this cute borrowing owl standing on one leg :)
You were really fortunate to find such wonderful natural surroundings that enabled you to have a black BG behind your owl, making it stand out superbly, just like in a studio :)
The exposure and DOF are spot-on and the sharpness is impeccable!
Wonderful work!

Bravo and thanks for sharing!

Excellent shot! you have beautiful lighting here. The owl provided a great pose for you and made me wonder for moment what was wrong with the owl. Then I realized he was standing on one leg. Very funny
