Don't ask about the title, I just thought dream would fit nicely with the silky water and reflection :-)

This Red-Crested Pochard was taken at a big pond at Cotswold Wildlife Park on Sunday.

I will post a head shot of it tomorrow.

I hope you like it!

Latin name
Netta rufina

Swans, ducks and geese (Anatidae)

Larger than a pochard, the male has an orange-brown head with a red beak and pale flanks. Females are brown with pale cheeks. In flight they show whitish primaries. They dive, dabble and up-end for their food. There is a large population in Spain and nearer but smaller numbers in France, Netherlands and Germany - and occasional wild birds may come to the UK from the Continent. The UK breeding birds almost certainly all come from escaped birds.

Where to see them
Found mainly in southern and eastern England, where breeding populations have become established following excapes from captivity. Occasional wild birds may occur in places like Abberton Reservoir, Essex.

When to see them
All year round

What they eat
Stems, roots and seeds of aquatic vegetation.

Thankyou for any comments!

Hello Joe,
Terrific capture of this beautiful bird in wonderful bright colours. Excellent focus and very sharp details. I love the colours and patterns in the water too! Well done!
Many thanks, Ulla

Hi Joe,

great sharpness and colours.

Hello Joe,
Very good POV, presentation, composition(!),...

It has a most unusual looking head and I shall look forward to tomorrows image as well, but this does give it proper perspective and is rather humorous in a way. I do not mean that in a negative way for nature is intentionally humorous I'm sure..and it goes to show once more that no two things ar4e alike...nor even close!

Hi Joe,

The title is fine! The Pochard is beautiful. What fantastic lighting - his head and eye are glowing. Gorgeous colors and excellent details. I love the reflection - that almost glows too. This is special.

Hi Joe,
A cute bird with eye-catching red beak and eye, and a cuter reflection on bluish-brownish water eddies, a fine composition indeed my friend!

Hi Joe and sorry for the delay

I think the title is good...the silky look of the water does make this shot a bit..."dreamy" :)
This is a great shot and i'm particularly glad to see you shooting in natural conditions :) I find it much more beautiful but also difficult, so the shots are worth more in my opinion.

This is a great capture at which i like the composition probably most of all. The duck and its reflection are very nicely presented and illuminated by the natural warm light.
The details are good and sharp, but i'm afraid that NeatImage took a bit away from the nice textures. However, the result is still excellent - with superb colors and an spot-on DOF.

Bravo and TFS
