Hi all, long time no post!

After popping in to visit some forum threads I was persuaded to post again, so here we are. This was taken about a year ago now (has it been that long?!) at Whipsnade Zoo. They don't let these out much as I think they are leaving them alone in an attempt to breed them. In fact I think this was the only occasion I've seen one out in over 2 years.

I hope you like it, but any negative or positive comments welcomed.

WOW! Strong details, and just look at that beak! I love how this eagle fills the frame, his pose, and the way he seems to be looking out in a predatory fashion. Fabulous photo, especially the background because it enhances this majestic bird.

Hi Andy,
Great composition with very good details and light. Excelent focus.
He looks dangerous and you captured this expression well.

A perfect profile-portrait with fine plumage and coloration details, thanks to your ideal POV Andy, the sharp eye and the predator's beak with that drop on the tip are plusses of this nice composition, so is the pleasantly OOF BG. Very good indeed my friend.

Hi Andy and nice to see you've let yourself be convinced :)

I think the people who knew you before, when you posted more regularly, will be happy to see you here again, too! TN needs photographers and members like you, my friend!

Even without looking at them again i remember you wonderful eagle portraits from before...they were really amazing...and this one makes no exception wither.
I love the great pose you managed to capture here and the lovely way you've composed this one.
The details are also magnificent and pin-sharp and so is the DOF - and these two qualities make this a photo that you can stare at for minutes and still find something interesting and cool about this bald-eagle. As a general feature of your bird portrait, i just love looking at those feather tips which contrast so nicely with the rest of the color of the feather, thus creating small interest points allover.
A big bonus is also that little drop on its impressive beak...very good timing for that!
The exposure here is simple impeccable, as well! You still managed to keep good details in both the whites on the head and the darker, shaded areas from the underside. I checked the photo info and i saw you've used the pattern metering...i'll try remember that if i'll ever attempt any similar shots.
The fact that you've used f/5 also ensured a superb bokeh in the BG which completes this beautiful shot.
All-in-all: an outstanding job and hopefully a great welcome back :)

Stunning shot Andy!
That droplet on the tip of the beak is brilliant!
Very sharp with impeccable clarity and superb detail.
Nice green BG that contrast perfectly with the bird.
Slightly OE on the top of the head but that is the only nit.
Exceptional work!
Good to see another post from you.

p.s I noticed you once posted a shot of a hoverfly taken with a 50mm macro lens. Was the lens yours? If so then why would you need to look for another macro lens?
