[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This little Hawthorn Shield bug is on a big of dog-chewed wood and the BG is another lump of wood!
You can see its super-long proboscis, which is used for either for sucking up plant juices or animal juices :-$

I hope you like it!

Latin name: Acanthosoma haemorrhoidale

Size: Grows up to 17mms long.

Distribution: Common in southern England, but rarer further north.

Months seen: April to October.

Habitat: Commonly seen in hawthorn trees and hedgerows.

Food: The nymphs feed on hawthorn leaves. The adults feed on the leaves and fruit of the hawthorn.

Special features: If you pick one up you'll discover why they are sometimes called "stink bugs". They can release a strong smelling fluid which can stain your hands. This is designed to repel birds and other predators from eating them.

The body colours are a perfect match for those of the hawthorn, and they are very well camouflaged in the foliage.

Thanks!

Hi Joe, my today neighbour, splendid macro with lovely bug, wonderful colors, great details and great sharpness, very well done, have a good week end, ciao Silvio

A perfect and unique view of a stinkbug Joe, that long proboscis is indeed very much in evidence, the focus sharp and the colors natural my friend. They can be a nuisance if you like eating mulberries from the branches of mulberry trees, for if a stinkbug was there before you, you will discover their past presence the moment you mouth the berries, but (unfortunately) not before!
Cheers,
Mehmet

Luis52.

There should be a sign somewhere which reads...it it's a shield bug then spring is surely coming from Joey! I like it much Joey. Very close, sharp and well coloured...I now see thanks to Warnzy's Digi mag from the UK, how serious some folks take their photography over there...You folks are dead serious...Even my US professional journals are not as good as some of thee UK folk. Wonderful example here!

You amaze me. Not only do you take these wonderful macros of so many insects but you know what each one is! Wish both would rub off on me. Oh, so this is what a stink bug is. You show him in good detail. Nice colors and I love the legs.
