[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This little Amur Leopard cub was born at Marwell Zoo in November, and was only allowed into public view yesterday when she was officially announced to the world.

Yesterday, when a BBC camera crew were trying to film her, she barely ventured into the doorway of the den where she lives. Today, when we arrived in the morning, she was still too shy to venture much past the doorway to the den, although as the day went on she became more and more confident. Finally by the end of the day she was happily playing in the rock pile near the den, and although she was still easily spooked into running for cover, she gave us a good show.

There are between 24 and 34 Amur Leopards left in the wild now, and some 200 in captivity. Many zoos are partaking in a breeding program, with the possibility of trying to reintroduce these cats into the wild if suitable locations can be found. As it is, each and every one of these cats is vitally important to keeping this subspecies alive.

Hi Miles,
You should have brought a video camera as well. You could have made some good money selling the footage to the BBC. :)
The moment captured is very cute. The innocent expression of this little cup is very sweet. Love the little twinkle in the eye and the softness of its coat.

this is the most amazing-cute creature. Pitty so few are left in nature. TFS Ori

Cool! One of the rarest animals on our planet! It's so good to see an offspring - even if it is in captivity.
Wonderful light and detail on your shot! Bravo!
Cheers, Klaus

Simply awesome!!!!

lovely story, lovely catch
hopefully she'll be all right and manage to rtyurn to her environment, but how will she learn the codes of wilderness behaviour?

The eyes tell it all... and what gorgeous gray green eyes they are. It is a wonderful debut portrait of this little guy. The natural rock framing works so well.

NIce work! TFS
