[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This Java Finch was photographed at the Butterfly House/Bird of Prey Centre in Sheffield.

I hope you like it!

The Java Sparrow is thought to have originated on the island locations of Java & Bali but is now widespread over Indonesia and South East Asia, its range now includes Sumatra, Malaysia, Philippines, China, Japan, Borneo, Christmas and Cocos Islands in the Indian Ocean and also the Hawaiian Islands and there have even reports of a colony of this bird in a suburb in Miami, Florida, USA, also some areas of Africa are noted too!
It was formerly widespread and abundant, but its numbers have fallen dramatically in the wild, and it is now very difficult to find in East Java and Bali in particular. There is the belief in the conservation world that the main focus for the Normal wild type Java sparrow should be in the Indonesian islands of Java and Bali.

The Java Sparrow is originally a lowland species, ranging from 500 metres up to 1,500 metres. Many habitats, including towns, villages and cultivated land (particularly rice-growing areas), grassland, open woodland, tree savanna, beach forest and even mangroves. It is a bird that loves its own kind both inside and outside the breeding season.
They are not unlike the Budgerigar in that they will happily follow local food supplies to sustain their breeding and feeding requirements.
The Java has been under threat for maybe centuries because of local trapping and the growing cage-bird trade.

Hi Joe
Very nice portrait of these beautiful bird. I like good OOF background and very simple but perfect composition
Good job
Best wishes

Hi Joe,
Very beautiful capture my friend. Lovely indeed with vivid colours. Great sharpness and wonderful portrait. TFS.

Grey, white, black and red make this bird's head one of the prettiest in the world, Joe.
You have done a fantastic job in framing this shot. The eye with that red oval-shaped ring around it looks out of this world. The brown BG suits the subject very well.
Well done and TFS.

Hi Joey,
What a colorful little fellow! You managed well with exposure and captured great details. I like this close composition too. He's a beauty! Thanks,

A great shot...and a cute unknown bird to me...it looks just a tad like a puffin in shape at least but more than likely not in size and certainly not same colours...Well done Joey..

Hi Joe,

A gorgeous portrait of this finch. A new one for me - never saw one before. The red, black, grey and white are fantastic. I bet fashion designers thought they came up with that color combination. Superb details. The eye is just amazing. Wonderful face, plummage, and I love the beak.

Hi Joe

Another lovely portrait from you, mate!
I see this setting worked well for you - f/10 and flash...you've used it for more photos similar to this one and it got you some very nice balance.
The result is great and has both good sharpness and exposure on this cute Java Finch. I particularly like that red line around the eye...very well captured and visible here.
Very beautiful even and uniform BG and nice composition, too.

Bravo and TFS

Joli portrait aux teintes vives, belle netteté.
Bonne journée.

Hi Joe,
A nice portrait of this Java finch. We have these beauties as ornamental birds to be kept in a cage and it costs about INR 1000/- a pair. Very fine details and excellent composition. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Hi Joe.
I like your wonderful portrait of the solid bird so much. Superb classic POV, framing and cropping as well as the pose of the model. I also like precise exposure and reproduction of all differently coloured parts of the bird. BG is amazing as well as the main object. Bravo.
