[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Kestrel, Falco tinnunculus, taken at todays Raptors in the Forest Photo Day at Liberty's Centre near Ringwood in Hampshire.

It snowed quite heavily this morning, for the first time this winter, so we were having doubts about being able to get out into the Forest with the birds. As we set off at 10.00am, the snow stopped and the sun came out, giving us a beautiful wintry backdrop. It was freezing cold under the trees, but this little male Kestrel enjoyed sitting out in the sun warming himself up and putting on a good show for the cameras.

Hello Miles,
Sounds like touch and go but I'm glad the day turned out a success and that nature saw fit to provide all that natural reflective material :-) Great image of a beautiful bird. Are you planning any dates in May or June? I'll be back in the UK and would love to come along.

Hi Miles,

This kestrel is freezing. The capture is sharp and I like the colors. The crop is a bit tight and I would have a little more space on the left side but that's just a detail.

Hi Miles,
great shot with perfect sharpness and good details.
Colors and POV are very nice.

Hello Miles,

What a beautiful image of this lovely bird of prey.
Seems like the bird can use a little warmth looking at the way it has its head almost pull in to the shoulders.
Wonderful wintery scene with some snow on the perch and at the bushes in the background.
Excellent sharpness and exposure and due to that colors and feather details are very beautiful.
I also like the vertical composition very much, but I personally would have placed the Kestrel a little of center in the frame with a bit more space on the left side to give it a little more space to look in to, but that's just my opinion ofcourse.
Excellent work. TFS!!!

Best regards, Harry

Hello Miles,

A beauty. What a clarity and sharpness. Just like a razorblade. Nice eye contact. The snow and the diagonal stich make this composition complete. Great pose and excellent handling of the DOF. POV and BG are oké. Thanks for sharing. Greeting and TFS BOB

Hello Miles,
Great photo of this Kestrel. Excellent sharpness and details in feathers. Very beautiful natural and clear colours. Fantastic DOF and POV.

Hello Miles,

It was worth enduring the cold for a shot like this!
The sharpness and the details are excellent!
I like the way he is just turning his head so that the small feathers around his beak are pronounced and the glint is caught in his eye!

Good portrait style composition.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Wow Miles,
Beautiful light and colors.
Nicely composed.

Bellissima immagine di falco, ottimi POV e DOF, molto belle la composizione verticale e la posa e il riflesso sull'occhio, molto buoni i dettagli del piumaggio e molto belli i colori e BG. Grazie e complimenti. Ciao Maurizio.
