Hello Everyone,

What a day it has been! Snow flurries this morning, out for lunch with family and then really heavy blizzards this afternoon! Fortunately, the temperature has risen and most of the snow is melting on the lowland! Snow in April!!

This cheeky little robin, that I am posting today, spent quite a bit of time in my garden last week! He worked out a safe method of reaching the bird table. He went from sycamore to beech hedge, beech hedge to clematis, clematis to bench, bench to table. I witnessed this method a number of times. It was incredibly sensible of him as he had a good view of the garden from each location and my cats are often prowling, hoping to find a pretty robin as a pet!!

Here he is on the bench before his last hop to the bird table, although it does look as if he helped himself to a titbit on the way!

This is a first for me in that I shot it in raw and then converted it to JPEG. I am an impatient person and it takes so much longer viewing from RAW! Is it worth the extra time and trouble?

Hi Bev, fine little Robin, good composition, your first using RAW!!..stick at it..you will get more control over your images. It will be worth it when you see what you can do with it. Can you PP in RAW before converting to jpeg, I only use jpeg for uploads...nothing else,

TFS and regards h

Hello Bev
You are so right about the weather today..I went to Stockers Lake and met Necip, Nick Glen and Mike Warnes and we spent most of the day frozen in snow showers!!..Roll on Winter I say!!
Now for Mr Robin..He has an almost glum look!! which I like a lot..The colours are spot on...As for your first shot in Raw...Raw is a different way of processing a picture and I have to disagree with the advise Howard has given you...In a lot of cases it is worth the trouble...But if you are happy with the Jpeg image then there is little point in using it...It is a long and open subject but I will gladly share my experineces with it if you would would like...Its not easy to use but it is worth the effort.
All the best Bev

Hello Beverley

I love these Robins - always so cute looking. And what a trip he has to get food!
RAW - I sometimes don't think it is worth it - but then now and then I get a good result - I need lessons on how to work with it.
Maybe more brightness and contrasts (PP RAW) would make him look even better, Bev.
Best regards

Hi Beverley.
Nice diagonal composition of the image and very cute robin. Its pose, direction of site and expression of eye(s) are sweet. I like very impressive and nicely coloured FG and BG. Shot is framed and composed perfectly too. My compliments and kind regards.

Hello Beverley, congrats for this great shot! Well composed, beautiful background and very nice colrs, thanks!

Hi Beverley,
I like the birds pose most of all, and the fact that he/she seems to be looking right at you..
Well positioned in the frame with good detail, color, and DOF.

Getting a good image is hard enough. I learned very quickly that shooting nature shots in JPEG meant a low success rate, as compared to RAW. It's worth it, just give it some time :)
Have a nice weekend,
