Hello,

Another dip into my archives i'm afraid. This was taken from about 40 metres away from the spot of my last post, at Batley View in then New Forest. I had a lot of time off work last Christmas, and this was on one of the days when i got up very early to be in the woods for sunrise. I had long wanted to catch this pool frozen over but hadn't been here for a while, so the log laying covered in frost by it's banks was a pleasant suprise and made for what i thought to be a nice foreground elemtent. It's quite a basic composition i suppose but hopefully conveys some feeling of icey winter crispness that i love so much.

I'd like to dedicate this to Markus (Heaven), who's photographs of the icey Alps landscapes i love so much and who's work this scene reminded me of.

Cheers Markus, looking forward to what you produce this season!

shot in RAW, curves, increased saturation + 4 to bring out the warmth of the early suns light, horizon straightened slightly, converted to JPEG, resized and sharpened.

Thanks for looking..

Hi Paul!

Basic or not it looks so fine! Anyway the frost and the frozen water look so good and those trees in the back... No one can say this image isn't special! Very much worth getting up in the morning :)

Hi Paul!

Thanks so much for this attention! Is it my birthday on TN or any other kind of celebration? I don't believe my pictures merit so much attention! A couple of days ago it was Evelynn, and now you. But to be honest: I like it!

:-)

Well, Paul, you don't imagine how I'm looking forward to preparing my skis or snowshoes for the first time and to hiking through deep powder snow or to sliding over iced surfaces... alone, just accompanied by my camera, a piece of bread and a bottle of hot tea.

Your picture is marvellous, and it was a good idea to get it out from your archives. (Didn't I already tell you this today?) Here, the different layers are superb: first the frost - perfectly sharp, then the ice reflecting the deep blue sky and finally the horizon-line and the sky. Your usual low point of view adds to the value of the composition and the picture itself. It's amazing how you always find an interesting foreground: if it isn't a rock or a couple of stones then it's a tree trunk or anything else, always crystal clear and eye-catching.

I don't exagerate when I say that you are the master of that kind of landscapes.

Many thanks again, dear Paul, and many thanks to all who contribute that TN keeps being such a fabulous instrument of communication...

Kind regards

Markus

Hola Paul,
agradable panorama,
horizonte sobresaliente y reflejos.
buen encuadre y dof.

Wonderful landscape, very well composed. I love the wood, a nice contrast to the cold grass in the FG.
Best wishes,
Achim

Hello Paul,
Beautiful vista with some awesome trees in the background.

So you give us previews of coming winter attractions AGGGH! The frost sure has an interesting texture. Just as another option I'd like to see this as almost a square format... some off of each side. The frosty foreground almost overwhelmes the image and I really like the four trees across the back. "Cool" shot... ha ha ha : )

Evelynn ; )

You got quite a bit of mileage out of colour in the middle of winter...which is not the usual bill of fare here int eh US...

Hello Paul,
You're really hiding some superb images in your archive!! This is a lovely view across this frozen lake showing the thin ice on the surface. Beautiful line of trees beyond and all in a lovely light that's brought out the beautiful colours. A very fine composition too!
Many thanks and cheers, Ulla

Hello Paul,
Many thanks for this wonderful sharing and a dedication to our friend Markus!
lovely view on this frozen pool with a great reflection over it with a good pov in depth!
good fg interest and a good beautiful lighting
well done
Tony

Hello Paul,

This is a wonderful shot.
As you say, the triagular piece of bank in the f/g, with its frosty appearance, is very eye-catching. The lonk, sinuey log makes a good lead in to the thinly iced lake and the trees beyond.

The light is amazing and the colours, really fresh.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)
