Hi Everyone,

the weather around here at the moment is, to put it mildly, a bit crazy. Torrential localised downpours, high wind and the odd bit of bright sunshine seem to be swapping places at such rate it's impossible to know what the conditions are going to be like in ten minutes time, let alone the next day.
With this in mind, i was up early this morning (5a.m!), and myself and a couple of friends headed down the coast for a walk in the storms and to see if there might be some good photo ops as the sun came up. Just as we thought, the place was deserted and the weather fronts came rollining from the sea one after another, with the odd patch of early morning sun inbetween.
What you can see here is looking West at Man O War Bay, in between the better known Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door, during one of those fleeting bright moments. A very quick stop to get the camera out before the moment was gone, and then lilterally 5 minutes later we were drenched to the skin again and being lashed by salty air and heavy rain... it was as always a great experience though, to feel and witness the power of Nature.

shot in RAW, a tweak of curves, increased saturation + 4, converted to JPEG, resized and sharpened.

Thanks for looking..

Hi Paul

Great shot - excellent low POV and superb lighting and colour. The reflection on the wet sand is marvellous.

James

Gorgeous dramatic shot with superb lighting and PP. Great POV and composition. Well done "fantasy" effects.

Hola Paul,
Un paisaje tormentoso que es maravilloso, siempre me causa una gran admiración el contraste de nubes oscuras contra objetos iluminados. Todo esto sumado a ese maravilloso lugar y a tu destreza con la fotografía da como resultado una excelente foto

Hi Paul,

The action wave, bright and contrast dark tone, light direction and slow speed make this image very energytic.Visual anchored by two strong elements, the splash water wave and bright yellow rock on the right but you handle very well and nicely framed.Very inspired on early morning shot.TFS and have a nice weekend.

regards
mohaimin

Smarty pants...Now you're showing off your stuff eh? I think maybe I'll go back to watching TV...you're too good at this game to keep up with...wow!]

Yeeeesss!
This is what i'm talking about! Wonderful seascape here, my friend!
Sorry to hear you were drenched to the skin and all for such a shot, but it was definitely worth it. I'm sure this will make a splendid print one day!

The moment here is so well captured. The strong morning sun adds such a deep saturation to all the colors here and the fact that the entire atmosphere is heavy and dark by all those thick clouds makes it so much better. This is how that beautiful vertical cliff - with the windy strata so well visible, too - stands out superbly and feels a world apart.
Further more, i simply love the extremely strong contrast between the foam of the waves and the dark rocks on the left or the dark clouds. Add to that that terrific big splash you've caught there on the far left (absolutely cool!!!) and you've also got plenty of dynamism to the composition.
Overall, this is one super fine shot, mate! BIG congrats for it and for taking the chance to go out on such a weather.

BRAVO and TFS

Hi Paul. You made them get up early today but your picture shows it was worth it. The colour of the sky shows the weather we have had for the last few days just as it is. Yet for the split second you have captured the sun light on the rocks to the left. well done TFS.

Hi Paul,
This is just amazing! A capture of a moment where one feels the elements in himself. Great shot, thanks for sharing.

Hi Paul,
A very good and beautiful capture of this beautiful beach scape. Very well composed low POV with lovely colors. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Let me humour you, chocolate, vanilla, mint and toffee!
You out do yourself with each new shot, Paul!
You're the best!

Hi Paul,
This is a very impressive shot. Your idea of leaving early and taking a gamble on the weather and light paid of well. It shows that there is no time not to take photos. I always love when the sun breaks through heavy clouds and illuminates part of the landscape against the dark sky. As you showed here, the cliff seems to pop out of the scenery. I love the action caught in the waves crashing on the rocks and the sence of calmness in the FG. This photo goes to my fav's.
TFS,
Niek

Very dramatic image!
I love the moody sky, the lit up cliff and the movement of the sea.
Great timing to capture the wave crashing on the jutting bits of rock out in the sea.
Superb depth.
Very good clarity.

Brilliant work mate!

Cheers,
Joe

p.s how much if an improvement do you find the 40D is compared to the 400D? (Sorry to ask all these questions!)

Wow, this is just the weather you need to produce your masterpieces!! Its a real work of art, the colours are magic and the scene most dramatic. Excellent low POV, greath DOF, sharp details and a superb composition.
