I dont often get two different birds together and in focus.they look as if they are talking about me taking pictures. The one in the foreground is a Female Chaffinch and the other is the Male Greenfinch.

Chaffinch ( Fringilla coelebs ) One of the commonest and most widespread birds in Britain, favouring a wide variety of habitats including gardens, parks and woodland. In winter numbers are boosted by the influx of north european birds. Song comprises a descending trill with a characteristic final flurish. Feeds mainly on Insects during the summer months but seeds in the winter where they often gather in large flocks

Greenfinch ( Carduelis chloris ) Length 14-15cm. Widespread throughout most of mainland Britain and Ireland but scarce in North and central Scotland. A familiar Bird of gardens, parks and farmland but absent from many wooded and upland areas. In full breeding plummage the Male is very bright yellow/green but for most of the year colours are duller, they have yellow wing patches and pinkish conical bill. Used for feeding on seeds.

Hello Nick,
A nice capture of two finches. Both the Male greenfinch and the chaffinch are nice and sharp and well seen. The technical features and composition are up to your usual high standard but I think this is a young male Chaffinch that is gaining his adult plumage. The female has no rusty buff colours.
TFS this fine image,
Have a good weekend,
Ivan

Hello Nick,
Lovely capture of these two in the sunshine! They are obviously enjoying the meal together. Great focus on both and fine sharp details. Lovely warm colours and a fine composition. We've just started to feed the birds here and today we had the 'usual lot' together with a Chaffinch and a Brambling.
TFS and best wishes, Ulla

Hi Nick,

These two really do look suspicious of you! I love the way we try to guess what birds "say" to each other - I do it all the time. This pair is wonderful - it's always interesting to see different species side by side. Beautiful colors, excellent details, wonderful poses. A different and delightful composition.

Jane

Hi Nicholas,

Beautifull capture
Excellent compo, POV, DOF and sharpness
i love the vivid colors

TFS Thijs

Wonderful capture of the two birds "conversing". They make a great couple. I like this photo a lot and it will go into my favorites. Capturing two birds... both sexes... in such a great pose/POV is fantastic and you did a fantastic job of seeing and presenting it. TFS

Hello Nick
A superb capture of these finches..Chaffinches and Greenfinches in my observations are very close in thier behavior and territories...I do go along with Ivan that the Chaffinch is a Male....Great notes and a great capture...The dof is spot on to get both.
A good weekend to you
Paul

Hi Nicholas,

You have captured a very god image of the two birds. The strong light makes even more vivid the colors of the plumage. Sharpness of the mage is very good showing fine details on the birds and wood beneath. The expresion of the birds is very fine adding significanty value to the photo.

Thank you for sharing,
Cristian

Hola Nicholas, buena fotografia y buen momento captado, parece que estos dos pajaros esten haciendo criticas de otros, je,je....
Muy buena exposición y tonos de color naturales. Un saludo

Hello Nick,
It is a nice and funny photo. For me, the Greenfich seems a bit angry and is talking something to the female Chaffinch... about you? Very beautiful presentation. Have a nice weekend,
Catherine

Are you sure you don't drink? Maybe you were seeing double:-)
Bob
A fine image BTW!

Ciao Nick, cute cuple in nice pose, good DOF, fine details, great colors and splendid sharpness, very well done, ciao Silvio

Hi Nick, good bit of timing to get these together, interesting to compare the colouration, markings and beaks... almost like the sort of thing Darwin would have witnessed in the Galapagos. A fine and worthy upload...regards h

Hi Nick

A really beautiful duo here :)
Excellent shot of these two, with spot-on focus and sharpness on both of them.
The colors are also gorgeous and very nicely saturated, but i think the pose is the best part of this shot - with the two whispering something...very cute :)
Well done, mate!

Bravo and TFS

HI Nicholas,
It is indeed quite an accomplishment to get two birds into such spot-on focus. Their relative position does lend itself to your interpretation regarding their sharing some intimacy. Great eye=contact from both of them.
Wonderful DOF.
TFS. : )

Hello Nick,

This is a classic!
Two perfectly focussed birds on the same log!
Excellent textural details and sharp focus.

You don't say where you captured these. Was it in your garden or in The New Forest?

The birds have just returned to the garden to feed here in N.E. Lancs. I haven't seen anything like this yet, just sparrows, starlings, jackdaws, robins, chaffinches and many tits.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Nick

I don't think they are talking about you, they look like they are talking about someone just out of the frame. I think they are looking at a sparrow and are gloating about how lovely they are in their bright coats.

The DOF is perfect leaving them sharp and the BG blurred. The light is wonderful and they seem to have great characters.

Lovely work
