[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Good Morning Everyone,

It's good to be back after my touring and family celebrations.

This morning I am sharing with you a beautiful, if somewhat ragged, Speckled Wood butterfly.

We have had very few butterflies in our garden all year, but just as autumn was approaching, our first ones arrived. (To tell you the truth, when we had just packed up our camera gear and were leaving the house to begin our holiday, there were 3 Peacocks and 4 Red Admirals on the flowers, butterflies we had not seen before!!)

Anyway, this specimen was spending its time sunbathing on the sedum leaves and, although not known for feeding from nectar, did seem interested in the flowers. Possibly there are not many aphids around.

If you are interested in learning more about this butterfly, please click here for an Internet link.

Many thanks for stopping by.
Please feel free to offer feedback on any aspect of the photograph.

Hello Beverley,
A nice capture of a female Speckled Wood with damaged wing (most probably caused by bird). The rest of her is pretty fresh but I guess she has already laid her eggs. Nice composition on the OOF green leaves.
TFS this fine image. I would have to travel over 100 km to get to photograph this species.
Have a nice weekend,
Ivan

Hi Beverley.
Nice full of lights and colours picture. Only nor perfect condition of the butterfly reminds that this is autumn. I also like excellent composition of the image, wonderful smooth BG and nice reproduction of all butterfly feathers. Only DOF i shallow a bit and left butterfly wing is out of focus a bit. My warm greetings and TFS.
Alexei.

Hello Bev,
This is a sure sign of autumn, a Speckled Wood looking rather worn! It's amazing how butterflies sometimes keep on flying even if their wings are nearly gone! A nice sharp capture in beautiful light and well composed.
TFS and best wishes, Ulla

Hi Bev again:)
Perfect macro shot of this poor beauty in a fine composition with wonderful details on the wings and nice DOF/POV.
