This was taken five weeks ago and the Robin had just got his new winter coat and still looked a little scruffy around the head. He has already taken charge of the feeder in the garden.

Robin ( Erithacus rubecula ) Length 14cm.
The Robin is one of the most familiar and popular garden Birds of all. The Robin is an aggressive species with the males sometimes fighting to the death to defend their territory.
The male and female are almost identical with brown crown, wings, upperparts and tail, a grey band along the sides of the breast, white belly and the famous red breast which is actually a deep orange colour. Juvenile Birds can cause confusion as they lack red in their plumage, being a rather dull spotty brown in colour.
Robins sing all year round, defending summer and winter territories with their fluty melodic song.
The Robin can be found in almost every garden as it is one of the tamest Birds, happily feeding alongside humans as they work. They will often take live food such as Earthworms or Mealworms from the hand.
Breeds from March to August building a cup shaped nest from grass and leaves lined with hair. Lays 4-6 pale blue-white eggs lightly spotted with red and incubates for 13-15 days. The young fledge after 12-14 days. They often have two broods

Hello Nicholas,

Robin looks so well against the black background! The light you have used allowed you to show very nice, saturated colors. Image is sharp so that plumage pattern can be well seen.

Thank you for sharing,

hi Nicholas,

good composition ad pose from this robin.
Beautiful colours.
How do you get this black BG?

A perfect capture Nicholas, nothing to criticise really. thank you for sharing this fine image with us my friend.

Hello Nicholas,
wonderful scene for pretty robin. Black BG wonderful and contrasted it very well. Superb POV and focus. Nicely composed. Great moment and great work indeed. TFS, best wishes

Hello Nick,

I have also posted a robin but I have only just registered its return to the garden.
Like yours, it seemed to be in charge!

Your fine details show how disheveled this little guy looks! But the pose and the eye reflection suggest he doesn't feel anything but 'smooth'!

Kind regards,
Bev :-)
