Here's another shot of these two squabbling Avocets.
I took this at Elmley Marsh with Pekka's 500mm lens with a 1.4x converter.

I hope you like it!

Avocet - Recurvirostra avosetta

Family
Stilts and avocets (Recurvirostridae)

Overview
A distinctively-patterned black and white wader with a long up-curved beak. It is the emblem of the RSPB and symbolises the bird protection movement in the UK more than any other species. Its return in the 1940s and subsequent increase in numbers represents one of the most successful conservation and protection projects.

Where to see them
Coastal lagoons on the east coast in summer and the Exe estuary in winter.

When to see them
Along the east coast of England in summer and in the South-West in winter.

What they eat
Aquatic insects and their larvae, crustaceans and worms.

Thanks!

Hello Joe,
A fine action shot!
Good use of Pekka's lens to catch these two Avocets from a fine POV, with good timing, good sharpness and lighting and set in a fine composition.
I like the droplets of mud too.
TFS this delight,
Ivan

I just love this picture! So funny, so full of life and remarkably photographed and framed.
Toutes mes félicitations

Hi Joe!

That's the best bird action shot I've seen I think! What a fantastic pose...
The lens seems great, I shoot with a Pentacon 500 (not my own one either :) and this Sigma seems to have similar quality (although hard to tell without seeing the original size image). Anyway this shot is fantastic and well framed in the square. TFS!

Best regards,
Andor

Hi Joe,
It looks like they are really having fun. You managed to get a load of good pictures on our trip. Very good sharpnes, good freezing of movement, nice POV and composition. Excellent work with a long lense.

Kewl! It looks like an advert for the World Wide Avocet Wrestling Championships...They actually look angry. Good timing on the click!

Hi Joe,

What's not to like? A fantastic action shot with the moment frozen perfectly. It must have been fun watching these two perform. Nice and sharp, even a sparkle in the eye. Wonderful blacks and whites. A nice natural setting and great composition.

You've certainly captured action Joe, but what the hell are they doing....some sort of wonky gymnastics display by the look of it.
An excellent image.
Well caught.

Hi Joey,
A wonderful action shot that displays these squabbling advocets uniquely. I like this as it takes a way from a plain boring static pose. It is encouraging to see this as it fills my head with ideas for the next time I photograph, I am going to try to get different shots. Thanks for sharing your super image. Keep on shooting.
Paul :)

Action shots are always fun. I like the way you cropped this too...really enhances the direction of movement here. I keep hearing that old song "Kung Fu Fighting" as I look at your shot here. ha ha

great capture, TFS Ori
