Joey recently visited the British Wildlife Centre and dedicated one of the shots to me. I thought he might appreciate this Ice Skating Otter in return. The otters seem to enjoy the cold weather and this one was quite happy on the ice covered lake.

Although conforming to the basic mustelid body shape of a long, slim body and a skull with powerful jaws, otters show numerous adaptations to aquatic life. These include webbed toes and a powerful rudder-like tail, used for propulsion under water. Otters are capable of closing their ears and nostrils while underwater. They have two types of fur; stout waterproof guard hairs and a dense, fine underfur which provides insulation. Their fur is chestnut brown and is slightly lighter on the belly.

Hi Karan,

Joe will love this!!! The Otter may like the cold but he does looks a little hesitant on the ice - not that I blame him. Beautiful colors and details from head to toe. I love the look on his face. brrrrrrr - looks very cold.

Hello Karan,
Great photo. Unique to see something like this. Ice skating without skates and than on four legs, not easy.
The sharp details are amazing and the natural colors very beautiful. Fantastic composition and POV.

Hello Karan,
Great moment you captured here. Well composed. A tad funny. As if the animal is busy to find out how it will cope with its situation.
Well done

Hello Karan,
You must have had some cold weather over there too! A great capture showing the Otter in a lovely pose on the slippery ice. Very fine colours and sharp details.

Hi Karan,
Very beautiful picture; good POV and composition, sharp details, very cute show.

A beauty indeed Karan, looks like trying to decide whether to go on "skating" or returning to a safer footing from this low POV. Exp. and focus right on the spot. Joe will love this.

Hello Karan

I really like these little guys, and I know where there is a good population of them near here.I have seen them a few times, but unfortunately for them there is a busy highway running through their habitat.
This is a lovely capture showing the otter very well.Excellent POV.
The fur texture is evident and the details are sharp.

Hi Karan,
Sorry I'm not being regular, much as I'd like to be.Wishing you a very Happy New Year.
This is a lovely dedication to Joe.I love the timing, the pose and the POV here.

I'm so sorry I'm so late!!!
Thankyou very, very, very much for this :-)
When I was at the BWC, I was watching the Deer over in the big field opposite the Otters and I heard a big crack. I looked over to one of the lakes and there was an Otter underneath the ice, breaking it, and then it climbed up and out :-)
I can't get over how well their fur insulates them!

This is a brilliant shot.
A great pose, POV and composition.
Sharp and crisp.
Perfectly exposed.

Thanks very much again, I really appreciate it.

Hi Karan.
First-class picture of a very cute animal. I like impressive POV and composition of the picture. They allow us to see all charming features and details of the animal. I also like warm colours of the image despite the icy "carpet" under the otter legs. TFS and al the best.
