Here's a grinning Black-tailed Skimmer which had just emerged from its old larvae skin :-)

Incredibly sharp details on the face of this dragonfly, Joe.
Macros of this calibre are rarely seen on TN these days.
Well done and TFS.
Ram

It is very beautiful...
Also your equipment is very interesting. I don't think that such a beautiful photo can be taken with f/29. I always try to use smaller f. With your photo I understand that it is wrong...
TFS.

Ciao Joe, fantastic portrait with amazing details, great colors and excellent sharpness, very well done, ciao Silvio

What a fine frontal portrait of this d.fly displaying its heterogenously constructed compound eyes Joe, a funny looking guy indeed seriously in need of a shave! An excellent super-macro study my friend. TFS and cheers,
Mehmet

Kewl Joey....I especially love your super close-in shots..each is unique..even as a child I gazed at these in magazines...hard to imagine, which kids did well, how one could see???:-0

Hello Joe,

You have done a very good macro. The DOF you have chosen is very well adapted as the image is very sharp sjowing even finest details. For sure only with my eyes I would not be able to see such details. Lighting is also very good rendering nice and naturaly looking colors.

Thank you for sharing,
Cristian

Hi Joe,

What a mighty macro this one is! Just fantastic and he does seem to have a big grin on his face. I love those eyes and the little hairs. I'm shocked that you held on to this since last May!

Jane

Hi Joe,
I think your Skimmer should have shaved before the photo. It looks like he has been partying, see the red spots in his eyes. Anyway, excellent macro work: great POV and composition and sharp interesting details.

When you're smiling the whole world smiles at you, as the old song goes.
This close macro of a smiling Black-tailed skimmer makes me smile as it must do to everyone who looks at it. The fact that this is sharp and whell illuminated without too much flash reflection put admiration and praise into those smiles as well.
Well done and TFS Joe!
Ivan

Hi Joe!
This time only a short comment - great title to great macro!
Nothing to add!
Greetings,

Hahaha, it's wonderful, Joe,
and I have the idea I also have to look at my dragon-shots, I remember to have also such a hairy face there ;-) I love those extreme close-ups so much - imagine you would see this face in that size in real like now on the monitor. I would run in panic!
Thanks, it's excellent

Hi Joey.
Extreme macro shot with highest quality. Bravo, my friend. Amazing magnification and outstanding sharpness and details of the image. Lighting is precise and colours are superb too. I also like impressive composition and turn of dragonfly head. Superb job.
Alexei.

Hi Joe,
a very good macro of the dragonfly head, it could be a cousin
to my "blowing bubbles" picture.
Good sharpness with decent DOF and nice natural colours,
pity about the reflections from the flash, it almost impossible to avoid for this type of pictures.
Well done, young friend.
Gert

Ciao Joe,
spettacolare super macro dai dettagli impressionanti quasi una cattura al microscopio, ottima la resa delle tonalità dei colori.
TFS.
