Here's my first post of this cute little bird. There was a small group of them tweeting and flitting between the branches of a tree above me. Then one of them flew on to a twig about 2m away and allowed me to get a few shots of it :-)

I hope you like it!

Long-tailed Tit - Aegithalos caudatus

Family
Long-tailed tits (Aegithalidae)

Overview
The long-tailed tit is easily recognisable with its distinctive colouring, a tail that is bigger than its body, and undulating flight. Gregarious and noisy residents, long-tailed tits are most usually noticed in small, excitable flocks of about 20 birds. Like most tits, they rove the woods and hedgerows, but are also seen on heaths and commons with suitable bushes.

Where to see them
Found across the UK escept for the far north and west of Scotland. They can be seen in woodland, farmland hedgerows, scrubland, parkland and gardens. In winter they form flocks with other tit species.

When to see them
All year round

What they eat
Insects, occasionally seeds in autumn and winter

Thanks!

Hello Joe,
A very nice portrait of a Long-tailed Tit. I like the POV, lighting and pose on the branch. The sharpness is also pretty good to make it well seen against the OOF neural BG.
These little birds are not easy to photograph as they are so active.
Well done and thanks for delighting us with this one.
Ivan

Hello Joe,
What a lucky find! I love these little birds and it is interesting to see this subspecies that occurs in the UK - A. Europaeus. The one here in the north has a head that is all white. This is a lovely capture showing it very nicely in profile. Beautiful light and colours and fine details. Well composed too!
Many thanks and cheers, Ulla

Joe,

Another quality posting. The subject is well composed, detailed and sharp. I like the lighting that shows a soft golden glow of the subject. The DOF, POV, BG and clarity are all excellent.

Hi Joe,
This is really cute little bird captured with nice lighting against clear background. Composition is bit tight for this fellow, could have given some space in front to make it better. tfs.

Hello Joe,
Not an uncommon bird to me. They visit my garden frequently. But they never sit still, always on the move. So it's not easy to make a good photo of them.
You made a fantastic portrait. Excellent sharpness and beautiful colours against a great OOF BG.
Regards,
Peter

Hi Joe,

nice presentation of this Long-tailed tit.
Beautiful pose of the bird and suburp colours.

Hi Joe,
You have captured a very good picture of my favourite small bird. I don't have any fresh pictures myself though a frindly flock just visited my feeders: 3-4 waiting patiently sitting on supports while the first three were feeding, what a sight (but no pictures). Excellent capture with good pose and composition, sharp fine details, good catch light on eye, natural BG.

Cheers

Ciao Joe,
meravigliosa composizione per questo grazioso codibugnolo catturato con ottima definizione, molto belli i colori dalle tonalità calde e stupendo BG.

Your photos are always so sharp and clear with the perfect depth of field, giving the image an almost 3-D quality. Great always.

Hello Joe,
Sometimes we see these birds here; you have to go to particular places though. Unfortunately not in the garden...
The light is beautiful in your work and I particularly like the shadow of the branch on the bird.
Well done

Buen documento y bonita luz. Hay que valorar la dificultad de la captura y la naturalidad de la misma. Un abrazo: Josep Ignasi.

Hello Joe,
Not so easy to catch this cute bird. Yes, they can come close to us, but there are always moving from branch to branch! I like very well the tones of your photo and the sharpness of the bird. Great job. Best regards,
Catherine
