I took this Dunnock in the garden at the weekend , the more i look at these little birds the more appealing they are. I am not over keen on the BG but i could not do anything about it . The wood it on is part off my feader so i might put this in another part of the garden .

Dunnock ( Prunella modularis ) Length 14 - 15 cm.
Common but unobtrusive resident breeding bird in Britain and Ireland, except on Shetland. Adult has a chestnut brown back , blue grey underparts, streaked flanks and needle bill. Feeds quietly on ground searching for insects and seeds. Most noticeable in early spring when male sings lively.Favours woods , hedgerows and gardens.

Hi Nick,

A beautiful shot of this Dunnock - a bird I have seen only on TN. His colors and shadings are very pretty. Fantastic details - the face is marvelous with the eye and the eye ring - every feather of the wing and plumage stands out. The pose is excellent. I kind of like the background - a little different and very pleasing. Composition, as always, is wonderful.

Excellent capture of Dunnock. I find this bird usually behind some twigs or leaves but there he is in open wide. Good pose and composition, pin sharp fine details, bright natural colours.

Hi Nick,
it is true that when one looks at the duller or drab birds first impressions might not be favorable towards them but that would be wrong as you know ,because there is often much texture and subtle colour variation to be seen with their plumes.I took a photo of the common house sparrow once and was amazed at just how lovely the bird really was, that and what chipper singers they are as well. This Dunnock like the house sparrow is just such a bird. The capture is clear and sharp, showing the colours very well and the textural subtleties that are needed to identify the bird.A fine capture regardless of the background you speak of and thank you Nick for sharing. Bob

hello nick,
you looks great on the profile picture,:-0), this is a fine capture, the composition, the details of the plumage, the colours look perfect,
very well done,

Even the word Dunnock has a Brit view or in language hear to it...and of course it is wonderful..I truly enjoy your works..If I were to choose just one..I would have a real hard time...and if I had to pick each one that I like as a favorite....my list would have to be 4-5x what it is...Very nice!

Hi Nicholas!

Your garden seems to be a paradise for birds! Moreover, you are a very good observer as well as a very good photographer. This picture here simply is marvellous. The magnificent colour tones make it an outstanding one. The usual sharpness and the rich details this reveals highlight the beauty of the bird at best.

Kind regards

Hi Nick,

Whata fine photo of the bird you have made. The image is so sharp that even fine details of the plumage can be seen. The colors of the bird have been well rendered looking saturated and vivid. The bird has a good pose so that all body can be well seen. The bird stays very nice against the fine colored and blured background.

Congratulations,
Cristian

Hi Nick

Very beautiful close-up of this Dunnock, my friend!
You are correct: they are very appealing little birds and if one is able to get some close to one and take such great shots, that texture, color graduation and pattern on their plumage is very eye-catchy. This is the case here, when you managed a super sharp shot which makes the cute dunnock look even better.
I don't mind the BG too much really. So long as its out of focus and contrasting with the subject, it fine.
Very well exposed and composed here, as well.

Bravo and TFS

A real gem here Nick!
You caught this Dunnock in just the right pose, from just the right POV with excellent sharpness and lighting. It stands out well against the OOF BG that looks like it might be a red fence. Great eye contact too.
A superb portrait and thanks for sharing it.

Salut Nick
Très belle photo de ce bel oiseau. J'aime bien sa composition et ses couleurs, la netteté est parfaite ainsi que le BG.
Bravo et au revoir...JP

Hi Nick,
a very nice picture of the dunnock, it's maybe a bit more colourful in the summer plumage but it's lovely on your shot.
Well exposed with great details and sharpness. It's also well composed with a fine POV. The BG is maybe not the best but what to do,
I think your dunnock was very co-operative ,and sat still for your 1/50 sec.
And Greg still have a bad memory he is getting old. ;-))
Well done.
Gert
BTW, let Joe try your lens.

Hi Nick, a real beauty indeed. İ loved its posture and the way which it is looking. Composition, colours and clartity are great as usual.

I like the dark background, Nick, with the superbly saturated colours of the bird, it's a great background to me even though it is not even. I like patches of light and colours but that's my taste. And you are right, those little birds seem very nice and beautiful. Another great one and tip of the hat to you!
