Unfortunately I am unable to drive at the moment and it will last a few more weeks. So my trips out are a bit limited . Last Sunday i had a walk down by the river but only saw a few birds in the distance . When i was wating for my lift home in the car park i was packing my camera gear into its bag , when i noticed this Robin above my head on a post looking down at me. I was able to get a few shots . He seemed to think i had food in my bag and hung around. This was taken hand held on my 400mm lens so i had to move back a few steps for it to focus.

Robin ( Erithacus rubecula ) Length 14cm.
The Robin is one of the most familiar and popular garden Birds of all. The Robin is an aggressive species with the males sometimes fighting to the death to defend their territory.
The male and female are almost identical with brown crown, wings, upperparts and tail, a grey band along the sides of the breast, white belly and the famous red breast which is actually a deep orange colour. Juvenile Birds can cause confusion as they lack red in their plumage, being a rather dull spotty brown in colour.
Robins sing all year round, defending summer and winter territories with their fluty melodic song.
The Robin can be found in almost every garden as it is one of the tamest Birds, happily feeding alongside humans as they work. They will often take live food such as Earthworms or Mealworms from the hand.
Breeds from March to August building a cup shaped nest from grass and leaves lined with hair. Lays 4-6 pale blue-white eggs lightly spotted with red and incubates for 13-15 days. The young fledge after 12-14 days. They often have two broods

Hi Nick,

The sharpness of the image is amaising especialy for a handhold shot with the 400 mm objective. Very good details of the feathers can be seen. There are also very nice colors in your photo. The sharply shown bird looks very well against the blurry background.

Thank you for sharing,

Hi Nick,

Hello Nick,
Your Robin shots get even better every time! This must be perfect in every way: the sharpness and lighting in particular are the tops and the pose and POV against a fine light neutral BG make this image one of the best that I have seen of any bird, let alone a Robin.
Very well done and thanks for delighting us with this.
Enjoy your weekend,

Hello Nicholas,

this is a superb capture with fine details and well composed. Great focus on the tiny cute robin. Very well done.

Hi Nick,
A nice capture of this beautiful Robin. Very well composed with sharp details and a lovely POV. Thanks a lot for sharing.

I see you have 3 favs on this one...You hold onto the best until just the right minute...and this symbolic bird of spring in america is well received here...albeit a bit smaller, I think it is cuter...the best of the feathers I have seen Nick!

Hello Nicholas !
I love this picture, for many reasons - the bird, first of all, is very cute and fluffly, like a ball of feathers. I love his pose and the curious look on his face. Excellent details on the plumage, just as much as I love the blurred BG with lovely colors. Very well done !
