Hello,

those of of you in the UK will be only too aware of the seemingly never ending snow we've had this week - with more on the way.
Well i managed to get the day off work on Tuesday, as i couldn't bare watching the white stuff falling uncaptured outside my office window, so headed here early in the morning, to the New Forest.
It was a hair raising and hazardous drive through the woods, with the roads untreated and thick snow falling all the time. Luckily my friend has a car with 4 wheel drive, so we just about managed to make it here to Bratley View. This was taken during a brief half an hour between frequent snow storms, with unbelievable blue skies and low golden sunshine creating a magical environment. Proper snow fall is so rare in the south of the UK these days, so we spent as much time racing around trying to capture as much as possible before the clouds returned...

shot in RAW, a tweak of curves and increased saturation + 5 - converted to JPEG, resized and sharpened.

Thanks for looking, have a good weekend everyone..

Hi Paul,
An impressive winter scene capture with nice composition.
TFS. Have a nice sunday!
Cheers,

Hi Paul.

Your trip in the snow was worthwhile. Nice and sharp throughout with good composition.

Robin

Hi Paul,
I don't want to sound sarcastic but at first, I have wondering what was rare in this beautiful landscape you present us. Then, I realized that indeed, you don't usually have snow in this part of UK. I saw it in the news and everything :-) Excuse me if I smile but we are so used to snow here that it is always funny for me when I see people struggling with it... Please, do not think I'm being pretentious; it is just that we (Canadians) sometimes forget that snow can be rare in some parts of the world when we are living with it sometimes 6 months a year ;)

This said, you captured this rare white substance in all its glory with good exposure and beautiful blue tones. I like this POV a lot with, as usual, excellent composition, DOF and colors.

Greetings from snowy Quebec!
Claudine

Hello Paul,
I'm glad you managed to get a day off to make use of the glimpse of sunshine while the snow presented you with some different and fantastic views. This is a wonderful landscape very nicely framed and with some beautiful trees in focus. I like the dead wood leading us into the image as well! Really great work!
TFS and have a nice weekend! Ulla

Ciao paul, fantastic winter view, great composition with dead tree in FG, wonderful light and colors, very well done, have a good week end, ciao Silvio

Hello Paul,
Beautifully done. Nice wide angle shot with beautiful content.
For example the fascinating trees background wise.
Very good lighting throughout the shot.
Besides the wide angle effect, depth is also very well generated through the with snow covered dead wood.
Don't use salt here;-). I only deliver constructive criticism
and I don't like Claudine's behavior;-)
Be careful with the 4 wheel. Drive with extra care.
Annick

Excelente creación Paul, con mucha fuerza en los colores y una acusada profundidad que le da mucha vida a la toma. Buen equilibrio de los elementos y buenos contrastes. Un trabajo excelente.

Paul, Very very nice landscape and showing natural beauty. I also heard this time it is more snow than in the past 18years. Simply awesome. I learn a lot from your landscape and composition. Ganesh

If you somehow mistake the powdery snow with fine sand, this almost looks like a fine summer scene Paul, but then one notices the bare trees and viola, we are back in winter again! A superb "Paulesque" capture with that slithering driftwood in the FG, thanks for sharing it indeed!
Cheers,
Mehmet

Hi Paul,
A superb capture of this beautiful landscape. Excellent composition and colors. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Hi Paul,

A very nice landscape and showing natural beauty. The contrast between dark and light overall the photo is amazing. Beautiful natural colors and enough snow to gives this picture the expresion what you want to show us Paul.

Thanks for sharing. kind regards and TFS BOB

THats amazing to see thick snow on the ground in Hampshire!
You've made a beautiful landscape of it.
Great composition,sharpness,DOF and lovely light.
Very nice work indeed.
Cheers & TFS

Hi Paul,
Just trees and snow. Yet the colors and composition turn it into a beautiful shot.
ISO seems high. A tripod and lowest possible ISO would have given even more details. Yet the outcomeof high ISO is somehow artistic.

Hi again

Nice to see you've taken advantage of that show i've been hearing so much of.
This is a beautiful setting and the New Forest would be the first place i'd go to if i were living in Bournemouth, too ;)
The warm mood here by the low sun is excellent and it also creates some long shadows that contrast well with the white snow.
The composition is again very nice and the exposure spot-on.
Lovely work, my friend!

Bravo and TFS

Hi Paul.
At first glance this is simple enough landscape but you managed to find such POV that the shot is became fantastic. Broken trunk is great addition for main scene. Trees, snow cover, a bit cloudy blue sky are amazing and give complete idea about this place and state of the nature. Perfect job. My compliments.
Alexei.
