Here's a Four-spotted Chaser which I photographed a few days ago.

A big thank you to all who wished me a happy birthday yesterday... much appreciated :-)

I hope you'll like this one!

The Four-spotted Chaser, known in North America as the Four-spotted Skimmer (Libellula quadrimaculata) is a dragonfly of the family Libellulidae found frequently throughout Europe, Asia, and North America.
The adult stage is found between April to early September in the United Kingdom, and from mid-May to mid-August in Ireland. Larvae have a two year developmental cycle. Adults feed predominantly on mosquitoes, gnats and midges; the larvae feed primarily on other aquatic insect larvae and on tadpoles.
There is a variant form, praenubila Newman, which has exaggerated wing spots. This is believed to be related to water temperatures during larval development, and appears to be more common in Europe than in the Americas.

Hi Joey,

Hope that your day finished well. This is a good well focused shot showing fine detail with a good dof. Colours and natural and clear. I like the overhead view, not always easy to get. Well done.

Regards,

Bill

Hi,
Very lovely image, beautiful colors (including background) and details. Lighting looks superb for this portrait. I would have preferred some space on top and left, you know. tfs.

Great photo Joe.
The quality of the chaser is very good, but against a plain BG is very special. Fantastic colours and sharpness. Good composition.
Have a good weekend,
Peter

Hi Joe,

another great macro, with a lot of details. Nice presentation, POV and especially colors!

Hi Joe,
This is the kind of clear overhead shot that zoologists like for their collections.
Not as aesthetically pleasing as those shot from more interesting angles perhaps, but supposedly better for ID purposes.
Anyway,a great capture.
Cheers
Steve

ciao Joe!
davvero un ottima definizione in questa cattura..la Libellula quadrimaculata
appare in classica posa con magnifici dettagli
del corpo e delle ali....

Hi Joe. Once again this is a fine close up of this Four-spotted Chaser . Your focusing is very good with fine detail all over. With good use of the light on the wings . All with natural colours. It stands out so well from the plain BG. well done TFs.
Nick..

Have a good weekend.

Hello Joey,
Excellent low POV and exact sharpness against the smooth BG.
Congratulations and a happy birthday, Pawel

Impresionante el enfoque, la profundidad, la luz y los colores. Un gran trabajo bien realizado técnicamente y muy llamativo por los factores comentados.

Hello Joe,
I trust you enjoyed your birthday.
An excellent capture of L. quadrimaculata, a fresh, recently emerged specimen that shows its colours so well before it becomes grey and worn
+: Sharpness, DOF (a little too shallow), pose, POV, BG, composition, colours and lighting.
-: none, it's a fine portrait of this species.
Thanks and have a good weekend,

Ivan

Hello Joe,
A lovely view of this beautiful Dragonfly, normally common here at this time but almost absent this year due to the cold and grey weather. Excellent low POV, sharp details and beautiful colours.
TFS and have a nice weekend! Ulla

Hi Joe

Excellent shot, the composition is excellent. All the beautiful sharp details are well highlighted on that great OOF background.
