Asian elephant at Whipsnade Wild animal park, taking a break.

Conditions: Cloudy but bright. RAW mode, manual exposure, handheld.

General info about the Asian elephant, from the Whipsnade website:

Scientific name:
Elephas Maximus

Animal Facts:
Amazingly, Asian elephants are more closely related to the extinct woolly mammoth than to the African elephant. The elephant's tusks are elongated teeth (upper incisors) and tend to be smaller in Asian bull elephants than in the African. The four grinding teeth (molars) wear out and are replaced by new teeth from the back of the jaws; the elephant gets through six sets of teeth during it's lifetime.

Where they live:
India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Indonesia and Southern China.

Habitat:
Mountains and forest

What they eat:
Vegetation, fruit, twigs, small branches, bark and roots.

gr. Jaap

Great shot Andy,
I've heard of the improvements at Whipsnade, but the new elephant water feature is a bit OTT!!!
Good shot, the one problem with the elephant enclosure is that it's very difficult to get a shot without the fencing.
Good notes, have a good week.

Hi Andy,
Yep, it's sure is a funny one! quite some waterworks there..
Good work and I like your choice of frame, very well co-ordinated with the image.

Superb shot Andy!
It's no doubt quite exceptional, but very good as well. Focus and details are perfect and the BG looks great. Superb POV and composition as well.
I like it very much.
VERY WELL DONE & TFS

Hehehe, you could have called it "pissing the night away" ... :) Funny shot. Details are sharp and the composition is good. I find the picture a wee bit too dark and I am missing the catchlight in the eyes. I am in doubt whether to give you 1 or 2 points ... TFS!

Regards,
Pieter
