We were watching the wolves (Canis lupus) at Dartmoor Zoo in Devon, where the male was trying his hardest to persuade this female to mate with him. She was obviously not quite ready to give in to him and kept snarling at him to warn him off. As she came to the front of the enclosure she snarled at us as well ...
