Well I have been absent for a long time on TN. Hopefully now I shall have more time to go out with my camera. This Robin was taken in poor light late afternoon. As some of you know this is my favourite bird.

Robin ( Erithacus rubecula ) Length 14cm.
The Robin is one of the most familiar and popular garden Birds of all. The Robin is an aggressive species with the males sometimes fighting to the death to defend their territory.
The male and female are almost identical with brown crown, wings, upperparts and tail, a grey band along the sides of the breast, white belly and the famous red breast which is actually a deep orange colour. Juvenile Birds can cause confusion as they lack red in their plumage, being a rather dull spotty brown in colour.
Robins sing all year round, defending summer and winter territories with their fluty melodic song.
The Robin can be found in almost every garden as it is one of the tamest Birds, happily feeding alongside humans as they work. They will often take live food such as Earthworms or Mealworms from the hand.
Breeds from March to August building a cup shaped nest from grass and leaves lined with hair. Lays 4-6 pale blue-white eggs lightly spotted with red and incubates for 13-15 days. The young fledge after 12-14 days. They often have two broods

Hallo Nick and welcome back. In spite of bad light you mention in your note, this image is striking and beautifully presented as I can remember from your style of photography. I very much like the warm and almost dark colours in the whole image. The dark backdrop highlights the bird's details beautifully. Thanks for sharing. Best regards.

Hi Nick,

Welcome back to TN, hope to see a lot more photos from you :).
Very nice coming back photo here of your favourite bird. You have coped very well in the low light to present the robin in a good pose. A nice overall composition and good sharpness, although it does start to fade a bit towards the tail.
TFS, Sion

Hi Nicholas, old friend.
I am glad that you have more free time to visit TN and share new shots. This one is composed perfectly. Reddish colour palette is very unusual and impressive. Details of the charming bird are great. Well done and TFS.

You are the third veteran of the old glorious days of TN I have encountered with immense and joyous surprise today, Nick; the other two are Goutham and Alexei. Needless to say, I am thrilled to look at your picture of a Robin. What a beauty!
Come back, you guys, and inject some life into this sagging portal!

Hello Nicholas
