This little fellow had chosen our Sage pot for his life altering change, unfortunately I wasn't able to see him mature into a butterfly due to holiday commitments.
I was however able to capture the second stage which I've added as a WS.

If anyone can help with ID I'd appreciate it.

The Life Cycle of a Butterfly

The first stage is called the egg stage. The mother butterfly lays eggs on a leaf.

In the larva stage, the egg hatches on the leaf and out comes a caterpillar.

In the pupa stage the caterpillar grows and it pops out of its old skin, already wearing a new one. This phenomenon occurs four or five times, after which the caterpillar begins to produce silk. With this silk, it attaches its body to a leaf or twig. It then sheds its furry skin for the last time. Under the skin is a hard form called chrysalis. The caterpillar's body turns to a soft liquid, from which the wings, legs and other body parts of the butterfly will form.

The adult stage is also called the Imago.

The Imago stage begins when the chrysalis is broken and the butterfly breaks out.

Thanks for taking the time to look.

That's a mighty fine macro of this caterpillar. The sharpness on it's hairs is very well captured and I like the crop you've chosen for the image. The contrast in colour also works very well.
Thanks for showing! Mike

Julia: Nicely taken shots of these parts of the life cycle. Well spotted! I'm pretty sure that this is the larva/pupa of the Speckled Wood butterfly (Pararge aegeria). The Wall Brown is very similar at both stages, but the pupa is more elongated.

http://www.ukbutterflies.co.uk/index.htm is a good resource. Any larva/pupa that suspends itslef by it tail in this way is a butterly, not a moth - which narrows the field down a lot!

Very nice work Julia and a great workshop photo also. Sure wish you ya could've captured the "grand opening" also. Very good sharpness, detail and colors in both shots.
Thank You!

Julia, if you rotate it, this can work as a lovely question mark.

Excellent contrast and a vivid green shade.

A very beautiful and pleasing picture.

bonsoir Julia,
superbe composition, et excellent travail. J'aime beaucoup le contraste des couleurs, le mur fait bien ressortir le vert transparent de "ver".

Good macro Julia. Very sharp and full of details. Looks like a candy :-) Thanks.

Hello Julia,
Lovely shot! The neon green colour of this caterpillar looks great against the brown BG. The details on the larve are amazing, even the tiny hairs are well visible.
It's a great shot!

Hello Julia,
Great colours here! Perfect and different (place) shot! I like the everything in the frame! Amazing second stage shot also and great note too! Thank you for all,

I like the contrast of saturated colours, the rusty BG, and the green and fresh insect preapring for the change.
Lovely shapes too. I think the big and strong frame works well too. Nice work.
