Scientific name: Vanessa cardui

Orange-brown wings with black and white spots on forewing. Undersides mottled brown with spots.

The Painted Lady is a long-distance migrant, which causes the most spectacular butterfly migrations observed in Britain and Ireland.

Each year, it spreads northwards from the desert fringes of North Africa, the Middle East, and central Asia, recolonising mainland Europe and reaching Britain and Ireland. In some years it is an abundant butterfly, frequenting gardens and other flowery places in late summer.

Hi Les,

A nice open wing shot of this Lady. Good focus and dof with natural colours against a natural background make this a nice shot. Nice diagonal framing sets it off well.
Thanks for sharing, regards Bill

Hello Les,

It doesn't matter whether it's England or Estonia, Somalia or Spain, this Lady looks really beautiful everywhere. Very well captured; mainly like its details, sharpness as well as the way you have isolated this butterfly from BG. Very attractive color and nice blurry BG.
Thanks for sharing with informative NOTE,

Srikumar

Hello Les,
A beautiful opened wing shot of this very pretty and well known lady. Nicely focused image resulting in excellent detail of wings and body. The colors are well saturated yet natural and you obtained wonderful exposure with no hot spots visible. I really like the blurred BG. TFS.

I love this composition, Les. The diagonal orientation does it.
Very pleased to know it reaches England/Ireland from distant lands during its migratory period.
Wonderful image with perfect focus and rich details and colours on the fully open wings.
We have this species in abundance here in north India.
Thanks.
Ram
