[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The brown long-eared bat (Plecotus auritus) is the second most common bat in Great Britain after the pipistrelles. As the name suggests, it has exceptionally long ears that are almost as long as the body. When at rest, the ears are often tucked away under a wing or curled back like ram's horns, with just the long, delicate tragus visible. This medium-sized bat has broad wings, the long fluffy fur is grey-brown in colour, becoming yellowish in places, and the belly is a lighter grey. Juveniles are pale grey in colour, lacking the brown tinges of the adults.

French: Oreillard Brun, Oreillard Roux.
Spanish: Orejudo Dorado.

SizeHead-body length: 46 - 55 mm
Tail length: 32 - 40 mm Forearm length: 32 - 37 mm
Ear length: 10 - 14 mm
Wingspan: 220 - 250 mm
Weight6 - 15.5 g

Taken on my house wall. As they are protected in the UK tried not to upset it. It sat on the wall for at least an hour then flew away as darkness fell.

Image has been cropped and high pas filter applied to compensate for loss of sharpness on upload.
