Regulus regulus

This shy little bird is one of the smallest species in the UK, it measures just 9cm from beak to tail!

This particular specimen is a female, you can tell this by the colour of the stripe on the top of the head - bright yellow and it's a female, orange and you're looking at a male.

The only species in the region you can easily confuse this with is the Firecrest (Regulus ingnicapillus), but the Firecrest usually has a black stripe that runs across the eye.

Handheld, ISO800, Sigma 1.4x EX teleconverter (=448mm effective), available light.

Brilliant Capture. Very nice detail and focus.
Good work and good notes

Very good picture Adrian.
This also the smallest bird in Sweden and it's quite common here.
You capture it great in a very good pose.
Good colours and details.
Great work.

Beautiful composition, clearness and the constrast are present, good work

Great composition. Exceptional pose. So nice of you to show us the little one. The subject really takes centre stage here. Lovely photo Adrian.

Adrian, really fantastic. This is one of those things you would never see except in a good shot like this. What a moment! Congratulations.

Hi Adrian, great shot. It's not a bird I have seen before. The composition is stunning. I think detail in the feathers has been lost from the Neat Image filtering. Good work.

Pretty good Adrian especiallyas they spend alot of time in the top of very tall conifers, seeming never to sit still.
got this one bang to rights though and complete with a good OOF BG.

A lovely capture.
Excellent composition, the bird is placed perfectly within the frame.
Nice detail and colours.
A good shot well done.

I spend my days on TN and I missed this one yesterday.
Great photo he looks sad..
Well done

Great capture of this cute little critter - all 5-7 grams of it, actually the smallest species of bird in Europe according to my information. In Denmark this species is known as the "bird king". We have a few around here, but they never sit still long enough to have their picture taken..

Hi Adrian
One I missed in my "off-time" she is really very nice, very cute and you did a splendid job in nailing her in this pose!

Love the colours, its like a painting but you had to hunt down this subject! Well Done!

Nice shot, excellent use of the DOF and the subject is well positioned in the composition !
