Blue Skies, White sands and blue seas, and temperatures hot enough to burn - and this is Scotland. This particular photo was taken on the Isle of Lewis at Bhaltos on its north west coast. there is nothing between here and Canada and here and Greenland except the Atlantic ocean.

Look more closely and you will see some scale. An orange blob that is my tent. This was the view from my tent for the time we were camped here and what a view.

The land around you in the foreground is the Machair, which is an environment unique to the Atlantic ocast of Scotland and some parts of Ireland.

"Machair sand has high shell content, sometimes 80 or 90%, and is found only in the north west of Britain and Ireland. In the Hebrides, it is found mainly down the west coast and is most prominent in the Uists, Barra and South Harris.

The Hebridean machair is also the last stronghold of the Corncrake (which we heard frequently - and on a previous trip here, I did actually seen a wild one). Twite, Dunlin, Redshank and Ringed Plover also thrive on the machair lands: there are over 17,000 pairs of waders breeding on the Uist and Barra machair alone - the most numerous being the Pewit or Lapwing."

For me the Machair was heaven, it is full of orchids which I will post later on. I fell in love with orchids at this very spot some 14 years ago...

Click here for more information on the Machair.

Please enjoy.

Emma it's stunning, and what a view! Amazing lush green grass against that deep turquoise sea, and the beach! Are you sure you weren't in Fiji?? *lol*
Beautiful, and your very brave camping out in the elements like that. I love camping but have to have a clean shower block to visit each morning ;-)
A perfect composition, thanks for sharing.

Hi Emma,
Beatiful place to camp! Your title says all except one of the bigger advantages: there are no more people.
Lovely colors and pov. Great idea to post a panorama.

Hello Emma, another wonderful panoramic scene for our eyes to explore. The large post is excellent with lots of details. It truly looks like a wonderful place to explore for. Well done.

If you told me you were on the BWI, I would believe you as well. I never expected to see this kind of white beach in Scotland. This is really a beautiful place to make camp and to relax. I like the balance in this photo with on both sides the beginning of hills. Those lovely little island look like a great place to explore and wander around on. The ocean has such a beautiful color. Great Exposure and such a good idea to make it a LP version. BTW, lovely tent.

This is lovely Emma,
I've seen a some of this coastline on TV, and have aways wanted to visit it, it looks absolutely stunning. And what a fantastic view you woke up to in the morning.
The details are nice, clear and sharp.
Good colours, lighting and exposure. Well composed and excellent notes.
Thanks for posting, have a great week.

Welcome back from you Hols Hope it all went well. is that a vango force 10 I see you camping in?
the colours look almost tropical, just goes to prove that britian is not always a colourless wet place all the time.
Stiching looks good cant see the join nice one.
TFS yours Robert

Hi Emma :)

I allways loved Scotland as a country, but i'm liking it more and more through your pictures.
Another very beautiful landscape with excellent exposure, lovely colors, great POV and a splendid composition.
Just a question: what do i have to do yo post such a big image?

Bravo and TFS

Hi Emma!
What a amazing sight! But it is a bit poor. Because lots of critiquer have had not points :) Me too, my points have been over too. But it does not matter. We can give them tomorrow. It's need only a word about photo: Perfect.

Hello Emma,
most pleasing and very surprising view!
Yes, this is Scotland, as I had the pleasure to see it on summer trips a few years ago, too.
A country full of contrasts and surprises, and almost subtropical spots hidden in between.
Clear and sharp, and very well composed panorama.
Great! Thank you, and best regards,

Hi Emma,

Fabulous shot of a beautiful location, I can see what makes you revisit an area of such outstanding natural beauty. But for a few missing palm trees this could easily be a tropical lagoon. Great job on the stitch of the 2 photos, no sign of the join. One of the few unspoilt areas of Britain, lets hope it stays that way.

Hello Emma, what an excllent landscape, wonderful panaramic, perfect colors, bg, POv DOF perfect details, excellent work, TFS Kyle

Wow, one amazing panorama, Emma. Two points for selecting such a beautiful location. Two points for doing a wonderful job recording it, too. I think it's really well done, and well stitched. The choice of 18mm seems inspired, because that only means a single seam!

Saludos... Ricardo

Excellent image Emma... beautiful landscape with the bonus of the version Panorama that allows to enjoy all the details of the same one.
I like their composition, the vivid colors and those contrast that they are appreciated in the different surfaces.
A pleasant shot, without doubts.
Greetings... Ricardo

Hello Emma,
Great landscape. Good note content.
No critique, except for your tent. I would have chosen a green one:-).

A stunning picture...
I like really a lot the beautiful contrast between the green grass, the white sand in the middle and the blue sea.
Also the clouds on the right add something special!
I'll have to come to Scotland!!
And when you see a picture and say: "I want to go there and see this beautiful place", it means that the picture is great!!

Thanks, Enrico.

Excellent photo Emma!

We really are spoiled in Scotland for beautiful scenery! TFS.
