I saw you critique, so I knew a photo was comming soon. And what a photo. The silver touch of shooting directly in the sun is wonderful. I can clearly see that it was a warm and sunny day, the head rays in the back are beautifully captured. Great POV and an superb composition.

This is a great picture. Great note explaining how you achieved it. Breaking the rules can sometime be rewarding. Hehe.

It's not a B&W but is seems very similar. Aesthetic compostion with extrange colors and rocks. I find it a calm and poetic beach.

Great result of this rule-breaking picture!
Excellent job you did here
TFS greets Kristies
I love landscapes taken with a telephoto, I really like the way the perspective is compressed, excellent. Sounds like you had a great time there too, sit down somewhere like this and cook your evening meal, just heaven. It's a great shot, specifically for me because of the telephoto effect, but also for the light and shadow, a really beautiful image that has a great sense of wilderness and calm about it too. I'm going to put this one into my favourites.

Lovely composition and use of light. Really well done
Great job, Emma. The lighting is dramatic, of course. Great composition. I'm a fan of limited colors and pallate. And great job with technical stuff to pull it off including avoiding any flares (which is probably the source of the admonition)!
P.S. With the small version posted the line between the fg and water looks odd, especiall in the center, but I'm sure it's fine on the large version.

Hello Emma, what an excllent BW landscape, perfect details, excllent lighting, Perfect work, TFS Kyle
A real pleasure to view this seascape masterpiece. The compressed composition the clever use of a telephoto has given adds real impact to this image. Very well seen and excecuted.

I like the lighting in this one, the silhouetts are dynamite and go great with the defined water. :)
Emma, this is very striking, like Aido says the compression of a tele landscape can work to great effect. This reminds me of one I took recently of the Skellig islands. At first I though that stack was maybe the old Man of Hoy. I notice this is in colour with a slight tone to it. If it were mine I may have went further and added a colour filter tone in PS to enhance the mood even more. Very well done mf.

Very quick visit. great shot.
Thanks for posting, have a wonderful week.
Well, before I learn al lthe rules, I have to now learn to break them! I'll have to try this. Seems I always end up at the coast with the sun in my eyes. ( Comes from living along the west coast. We do get the sunsets though)
That is an interesting rock, especially in silhouette. Hard to believe it is color.
If one were to buy a ND filter would it be the 4 stop one? I just read an article that said get a 3, 4, or 5 stop. I'm glad I read it, because I was just about to buy 2 stop. I have a 2 stop ND Singh Ray grad already. I have the Cokin system and was thinking of getting a Tiffen glass ND.
Thanks for your critiques and advice.

Refering to the comments below...I would like to say "DITTO". Everyone has expressed my thoughts better than I could. Also, I would like to comment on your choice of framing. Placing a simple frame around this image keeps it PURE. Congratulations.

this is a beautiful picture.
Don't bother about the rules, it's ment to broken them.;-)
I like this, well composed, good POV and deep.
Very well done.
Another way to darken picture in the daylight, is to stack two polarising-filters, it can be totally dark.;-)

Hi Emma , just the sort of veiw I love, i too have managed a couple of these B&W color images and I think they work far better than converted ones IMO, the almost silouhete effect is spot on. TFS yours Robert

Un extraño e intrigante paisaje Emma con un contraluz que brinda a la escena una atmósfera de misterio.
Adecuado encuadre y composición de un lugar que desearía conocer.

Very nice work on this one. The different planes in the photo are very well managed due to the great focus on the contour. Light is very beautiful and B&W fits perfect for this one.
About your note, I read somewhere that any photographer must know the rules to be able to break them :D

the sunlight on the water is beautiful. Looks almost like mercury pooling. I like that B&W look this has. Wonderful composition. The silhouette (had to look up the spelling there ha ha) created is what really brings this mood of an old movie - a love story set on a lonely beach.
