Another view of Blea Tarn, near Little Langdale in Cumbria, taken just a few minutes after this one.
I had 3 shots almost identical to this one and I've probably PP'd them all at least 3 times each, trying to decide which one I like best, and trying to get the exposure and contrast just right. I decided on this one because of the pleasingly smooth ripples in the foreground.
I'd be very interested to know what you think of the exposure, colours and contrast, as that's what I had the most trouble with during the RAW conversion.

As always, I welcome honest and constructive criticism rather than polite comments!

PP work: Convert from RAW, adjusting colour balance, exposure, brightness, contrast and saturation.
Slight crop at the bottom (about 15%)
Tiny bit of colour burn to remove what looked like a raindrop (can you spot it?!)
Re-size for TN
Smart sharpen LAB lightness channel, 300, 0.3
Add border & title.

See my previous Blea Tarn post for notes on the site.

Nice clear and sharp. Like the composition very much!
I see something in the air. The upper part seems a little to blue or something. I am not sure what it is, but it seems to me it had a little to much photo-shop. Anyhow, the composition and the lovely colours make it still work!

TFS Greetz Kristies

P.s. and sorrie : Yes I can spot the raindrop

Hi Andy
I liked this one but I prefer the other, cause the stones seems to be floating in the air...
In my opinion the colours are well, exept for a certain overexposure in the front rocks, maybe for the direct sunlight, or even my monitor.
The situation in this shot is that there are extreme light condition, for the rocks in the first plane (light) and for the moutain in the BG (shadow). This make very difficult the PP.
Anyway, the photo is very beautiful as the other one, and the scenario is great, did you filtered the sky ?

Lovely composition and an amazing sky. I love the light on the water and on the hills

Hi Andy,

Excellent. It's the composition and colours that make this shot work! I prefer this one to the other one. The sun on the first rock looks a little bright to me but other than that it looks perfect!

Hi Andy,
this is not an easy shot wiht the exposure but you mange well, it's the first stone who slightly OE, The Gradule filter helped you alot here.
Well composed, good POB and nice colours.
Well done.

This is a very beautiful composition, a fantastic landscape and I like the stones leading into the picture, but the very blue sky makes the picture look cheap somehow.

Hi Andy,
The details are nice, clear and sharp.
Good colours and lighting. The POV is spot on.
It looks like you used a grad blue filter? I think you'd have got a better result by using just a polariser, as you appear to have a bit of OE on the rocks and the reflections in the water are a litle distracting to me. I can't see where you removed the raindrop, but I'd like to know if the x in the bottom left corner marks the spot!?!
Thanks for posting, have a great weekend.

HI Andy,
it's like looking into another world, so silent and peaceful, I like this atmosphere so much, thanks

Hi, Andy.
Nice landscape with well balanced composition. But if yu demand honest critics, then I find first part (mainly water) a little bit overexposured. Perhaps circular polarizer is better tool here and maybe to change angle a little bit if possible. Other things are good.

Hi Anda,
The photo looks fantastic. Very good composition with the diagonal of the front stones in the water.
Very well done and TFS

Hello Andy, well this is absolutely beautiful mf. The change of light is superb as is the muted tones of the land. I am no expert on LS but presented with this wonderful opportunity I may have used a polariser to reveal those pebbles in the foreground by eliminating some of the reflection, a little closer (if possible) to the rocks and less sky to perfectly balance composition. Look, those nits a side its a cracking shot, well done.

Beautiful landscape, beautiful shot!

Hi Andy,
What a stunning photo. I have agree with Stephen on the rocks and sky. But besides that, I like the ripples in the water and the soft colors in the hill.

Hello Andy, excllent colors, Bg, POV DOF perfect details, very crisp, perfcetly composed, aybe alittle over exposed but a great JOb, TFS Kyle

Una bella composición Andy a partir de un sitio maravilloso.
Excelente encuadre vertical, con colores muy llamativos y buen DOF.
Gran trabajo de post procesado.

Beautiful composition Andy starting from a wonderful place.
Excellent vertical framing, with very attractive colors and good DOF.
Great work of post processed.
Greetings... Ricardo

Nice capture. Love the light, POV,...

This is a fantastic composition Andy. I have a little difficulty with the overly saturated sky and the not so saturated hills and OE mid/fore grounds. I'm curious as to the actual sky conditions. It seems to me that if the sky were that blue that the water would have picked up some more of that color. Maybe I'm wrong but it just doesn't feel quite right. It is a super picture though.

Hello Andy,

The composition is extremely nice imo. I really like the clear water and the calm wrinkles. The hills in the background form a lovely backdrop and I think the use of the filter increased the intensity of the clouds. If I had to make one negative remark than it has to be about the two rocks in the fg; they seem a wee bit overexposed. Anyway, this is a wonderful landscape. Well done & TFS!

Hello Andy,
such lovely scenery and you choose such an excellent POV. Wonderful ripple texture on the water. What a view, this is a wonderful composition.

Hi Andy,
I love this picture! Everything seems perfect. Great exposure, composition, details, POV and DOF. I like the transparence of the water and lightning a lot. TFS,

Hi Andy.
You have shared a very nice landscape picture with wonderful colours, details, DOF and composition.
On my taste the previous picture was more softly and a little bit more pleasantly for an eye. In this picture contrast is a little above and consequently it is looked differently. However it is matter of taste as both of pictures are great. TFS and my best regards,

Hi Andy

That's ART my friend. So peaceful scene, great! I like the waves and the superb sky! Well done.

Hi Andy,

Just read your critiques on my Blea Tarn shots so had to reply in turn to your Blea Tarn shots!

Firstly thanks for the comments, both on my news and my images - much appreciated.

On your shots, out of the two I prefer this one but they're both smashing shots, great technique, great use of wide angle and foreground interest and tripod / wide DOF for pin sharp shots. Only slight question in my mind is re the blue achieved by the filter - not sure if others have mentioned it but for me it's just a tad over-blue at the top and turns the clouds blue as opposed to a polariser, did you try both?

Other than that, lovely work!
