[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
A bit smaller than this Uknown one I captured last week and more of the size we usually find about 20mm long, this also seems to be the commonest colour variation of the Common Grasshopper with the dark stripes there are 3 other colour variations of Green, Buff, and Purple.
In the UK most grass hoppers can only be found in the warm summer months emerging from the group of eggs laid in the soil the previous year in May and rapidly growing as wingless nymphs which is really just a small form of the adult but no functional wings they look like the one in the link above. By July they have attained maturity and the males start to sing to attract a mate, this is done by rubbing the pegs down the back of the powerful rear jumping legs on the rough veins of the forewings to produce the chirping song every knows. They survive by eating grass, like the large grass blade this one is seen one here this will keep them going till the cold weather sets in around October.

Hi Robert, nice macro. I like the vertical composition and the details are very good with good natural colours. Well done and TFS.
Dean.
