I still have lots of deer shots that I could post but I thought I would have a change and post some natural objects where I find the structures attractive. These don't belong to me - I have borrowed them from a family member for the photos.

1,6,7 - Quartz: 1 is show in it's prismatic form (shot from above). Quartz is the most common mineral found on this planet. This is the natural form of silicon dioxide and can be found in a range of varieties and colours. 6 is smoky quartz and 7 is rose quartz (Mohs' scale of hardness: 7)

2 - Pyrites shown it it's cubic form. Common iron ore. Brassy yellow in colour, it is often called ‘fool's gold’ (hardness 6–6.5)

3 - Fossil Resin with insects

4 - Galena. A lead ore which often forms cubes with the corners rounded.

5 - Fossil coral

8 - Not sure on this I think it is Aragonite in it's 'sputnik' form. This is a form of calcium carbonate

9 - Another form of Calcium Carbonate, these are basicaly mini stalactites

On request for some lighting information - the translucent crystals were shot using a light box to light them from below. The others were shot using natural light (set up by a window)

Very interesting presentation Karan... original as many of your post.

I like it a lot: idea, composition, POV, DOF, focus, sharpness, color, lighting, frame, notes.

I don't like it: nothing.

Thank you for an instructive sample of your talent.
Greetings... Ricardo

Each one of them is a great study shot. Congratulations for this collage, really. I will borrow Ricardos comment this time :) It is just what I think.
I added to Rocks theme, where you can find a lot on interesting minerals too.
OOPS, I wanted to add to minerals and no to rock, sorry for the mistake.
I wonder how I can get it out of rocks theme...
TFS, and regards.

Hello Karan,
thank you for this nice collection of minerals and fossils. I think lighting is a critical point here because you have semi-translucent materials and others with glossy surfaces. Obviously, you used different modes of litghting for the several specimens. Perhaps, you can add some information on that for each picture!?
Best wishes, Peter

Beautifull pictures and presentation. Another fav for me.

Hi Karan
I just love these detailed shot of your rock collection. I love the lighting effect. Colours are wonderful. Your notes are good too.
