It's taken me a while but this is my 100th post. I have many photos building up in my 'post to TN' folder but I thought this would be a good 'celebratory' image as I've tried long and hard to get a good flying duck shot to match the likes of Gert et al.

A while ago I posted this shot with a tip on an easy way to get a flying duck shot. My tip for this shot is even simpler - get a dog! We were feeding the ducks at Stockgrove country park, Bedfordshire when someone approached with a dog and the dog inevitably charged at the ducks. They all flew off, of course and that gave me the idea for the shot. A couple of minutes later, the ducks were back, and a couple of minutes after that, another dog. Yippee!! Flyingducksaplenty!!

Conditions: Late afternoon, overcast. Handheld. Shutter priority (If I recall correctly) at 1/1000

Camera was set on continuous shooting mode and I took a series of 5 or 6 shots. This is my favourite.

I hope you like it!

Andy

Hi Andy and congrats to your 100th post!
This is really a very beautiful one! It'a amazing how you managed to catch them all at this impressive moment and even better - there is an entire family there: from the little ones to the older and very beautiful colored ones.
What i personally lovelabout it is the warm light and the impecable direction it is comming from - it does create such a great effect of the ducks' faces and wings!
Very well frmaed and composed, too, with an impressive DOF achieved with only f/5.0.

Bravo and TFS

Hi again Andy,

This really is an excellent picture to post as your 100th picture (unbelievable how many you are ahead of me!!). The picture is very dynamic, colors are good and sharpness is perfect. Composition is really good and I think you shouldn't take the TOS that seriously. ;)

Regards,
Pieter

Hi Andy,
Congrats on a great action shot and your 100th - seeing all these ducks frozen in mid-flight is great.
I especially like the POV from the side, showing their faces.
It's a pity to have a few ducks cropped but with so many ducks in the air it cannot be avoided.

Wow that is a lot of flying ducks. They look like the flying duck ornaments in old victorian houses. Great frozen movement, lovely colours and light. Great tip on the dog...now where can I borrow a dog?

Sorry I missed your 100th post, belated congratulations
