This capture was not exactly what I wanted when I headed down to the Murlough Nature Reserve to capture the sunrise. Apart from the heavy clouds which obscured the sun there was also a very strong wind channeling down from those mountains blowing a lot of sand into my face.

Anyhow, there was a change of light which illuminated the foreground and lifted the shot. Composition is a little untidy but I hope you like it. I cropped the top of the picture as this is a vertical composition. Any artifacts are due to heavy compression.

Murlough National Nature Reserve is a fragile 6000 year old sand dune system owned by the National Trust and managed as Ireland’s first Nature Reserve since 1967. It is an excellent area for walking and bird watching due to its spectacular location at the edge of Dundrum Bay and the Mourne Mountains.

Software: Adobe Photoshop CS2 Windows
Exposure Time: 1/15 sec
F-Stop: f/7.1
ISO Speed Ratings: 100
Focal Length: 10/1 mm

Hello Stephen,
Terrific very dramatic landscape you're showing here! Beautiful lighting giving fantastic colours and the old fence leading the eye towards the centre and far away the dark clouds over the hills. I think the untidyness helps to create the drama! I like it a lot!
TFS, Ulla

Hi Stephen, so you have the 400D now - are you pleased with it?
Good shot here! You have managed the sharpness so well from the front posts to the back. The lighting is great, well captured, tfs,

Hi Stephen,

This is a beautifull view of seascape!! Very very good work, this light is gorgeous!!!

Hi Stephen,

Beautiful view, well composed, excellent capture.
Nit, not to thrilled about the vignette border. ;)

Hello Stephen.

Excellent picture, nice composition.

Ohhh my gosh...I feel like I"m looking out a window to the world..amazing details, interest...great POV.I love the old fence and the food steps in the sand..oh and those clouds..oh I think they just add to the atmosphere...beautiful..oh and Must look at the rest of your gallery..TFS
Donna :o)

You captured a wonderful broad tonal range here Stephen. I think the composition is strong. I'm not sure what you mean by "untidy". All the lines seem to lead into the frame, and the light is wonderful.

Evelyn : )

Hi Stephen,

I find the composition interesting. Broke down fence, nice beach and mountains in BG are nice. Nice contrast in the colors. I especially like the play of light with the sun shining trough the clouds on the beach.

PC :)

Excellent magical light with a most dramatic sky. I sense a bit of noise but the overall result is a very rare and captivating mood. Thanks.

This is incredible!
At first i thought it was something computer-made, then i looked who took it, i read the note, took another look at the picture and remained stunned (that was last night).
Only this morning i could get a grip and say something about it :))
Stephen, you outdid yourself again :) (this time with a bit of luck from the weather ;) )
The light here in the FG gave you an unbelievably magical effect. Also the colors and tones are wonderful throughout the entire frame and the composition impressive.
Another great work!
Bravo and TFS

Hello Stephen,
Excellent ! I think there is nothing to add. Well done.

I think the composition works just fine, lots of interesting little nocks and crannies to look at as the sweeping bend of the beach guides you through the shot.
Another very fine landscape.

Hi Steve.
I just dropped by to wish you and your family a Merry Christmas & Happy Holiday season mf.
I can't tell you enough how much I've appreciated your images throughout this past year.

Hi Stephen,
as usual a great land/seascape from your hand.
The colours, composition and POV are great.
I like the dramatic light too. Pity about the the vignette border as Mike mention.
Beautiful work.

Hi Stephen,
Again... very good compo...and same critique as my previous critique.
Good image!

Great looks more like a painting! Wish I can take such photos too :-)

It was absolutetly brilliant to snap this sucker right then, Steve -- the light is really remarkable! Incredible texture in the sand, too.

Hi Stephen,
Great composition, and a really wonderful light. In fact what makes the difference between an good photo and a special photo is the quality of the light and you got it!
Very well done and TFS

Hi Steve,
Partially I can understand that you are not so happy with this photo, but on the other hand I can't. I do agree on the untidy look of the photo. But it is also great to see that nature is taking back what is hers. The lighting adds great drama to the photo but does almost freeze my view to the FG. Still that FG has something stunning to it.
What I do like a lot, are the imprints in the sand from your Wellingtons.

P.S. After reading Mike's critique, I have to agree with him on the framing. But, I didn't notice it myself.

Hello Stephen
This is a fantastic shot! Just brilliant. You should get this one enlarged and framed as it deserves a special spot in your home. There's nothing wrong here.
A++ for you.
TFS this special place.

I love it - you have caputured the light so well and the beach leads through the picture.
Well done!

Hi Stephen. This is very good and it could make a good-looking painting. The use of the fence in the foreground looks especially picturesque. TFS. Murray.

Amazing shot, I love how you've used the lighting in this situation! Very professionally done,
