Rosybill (Netta peposaca)

HABITAT Central Chile, south to Chiloe Island, east across Argentina to Paraguay, Uruguay and south to northern Patagonia. Found in areas around lakes with dense vegetation.

APPEARANCE Medium sized - 20” average adult size. Generally cherry red bill or rosy pink with hump on the male. Female is brown with white belly and intertail, with a grey bill. Male - head, neck and breast purplish black, belly white, vermiculated black. Back black vermiculated with white. Greater wing coverts and secondaries are white, tipped with black. VOICE Sounds like a trumpet.
NEST Among reeds and female occasionally drops her eggs in the nests of other waterfowl.
GROWTH Up to 14 eggs in a clutch and they incubate between 23 to 25 days.
BEHAVIOR Often flies to great heights, sailing in wide circles almost out of sight. Dives for waterplants, although it also feeds much from the surface.
DIET Vegetation - water plants.

One of the more handsome variety of ducks, this one was photographed at the Wetland and Wildfowl Trust in Arundel. This is my second attempt at this duck and I have posted this one because it shows off the beautiful colours better than the last.

Fantastic colors and razorsharp details as always. :) I think it would have been better to give him some breathingspace on the right. Great note. Well done. TFS!

Very nice portrait, framing a bit too tight in front of the duck.
Well done.
TFS.

Love the purple head and rose coloured bill. You've captured the zigzag pattern on the side really well. Another great shot.
