Insects in flight-22 :
Why did I want to catch the insects flying? It has to do with the old saying of a population geneticist : “It seems to me that photography describes what animals do when they are doing nothing interesting”. Ok, flying is interesting, but preying, copulating, egg laying, nesting too. Here is an example of something going on : the male Azure Damselfly (Coenagrion puella, Hufeisen-Azurjungfer. Coenagrionidae) holds the female by the neck and flies around with her for a long time after the transfer of sperm. It is a case of mate guarding, it insures that the male is not cuckolded.

Hi Dietrich,
This image's simply gorgeous. Nice composition with awesome sharpness, and the shallow DoF helps to gain attention on the flying insects only. That's class, as we say in Ireland. :-)

Hi Dietrich,maybe the most easy to do in your serie,i know very well the azure damselflies that are very common in my country too. Easy but another time the result is wonderful,perfect sharpness and bright colors too. Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano
