Motacilla flava Linnaeus, 1758. Male M. f. cinereocapilla
Yellow Wagtail

Motacilla flava is a small passerine bird of the family Motacillidae. It is a slender, 15–16 cm long bird, with the long, constantly wagging tail characteristic of the genus Motacilla. The adult male in breeding plumage is olive above and yellow below. In other plumages, the yellow may be diluted by white. The heads of breeding males have a variety of colours and patterns depending on subspecies and races. It is an insectivorous bird which inhabits open country near water.
Motacilla flava breeds in much of temperate Europe and Asia and has a small population in Alaska. It is resident in the milder parts of its range, such as western Europe, but northern and eastern populations migrate to Africa and south Asia.
In Cyprus three subspecies are common passage migrants: M. f. feldegg, flava and thunbergi. Another three subspecies are less common migrants: beema is occasional while lutea and cinereocapilla are very rare.
M. f. feldegg is also a local breeding summer visitor.
M. f “superciliaris” is a rather frequent intergrade between feldegg and flava and probably also between feldegg and bema.

Hello Christodoulos,
I must say this is a real beauty of a shot. The focus is tac sharp allowing us to see all the fine detail in it's plumage and unique features. Exposure is perfect with no hot spots and colors are true and natural. I always look for that ever sought after glint in their eye. Great job of photographing such a gorgeous and interesting bird.
