Euphorbia thompsonii has a very restricted range, being found only in Cyprus and southern Turkey. In Cyprus it is a rare plant, listed in the Red Data Book
Euphorbias don’t have sepals and petals; rather the stamens and style are held together in a cup called the cyathium; the ovary, unusually in plants, is stalked and often hangs out of the cyathium. In the photo the ovary is the hairy round structure.
Members of the Euphorbia genus are characterised by having different-shaped ‘glands’, structures on the rim of the cup which can be smooth or horned. Here they are dark-coloured and stand out.

You have managed to control the depth of field perfectly here Yiannis, which is not the easiest think when two objects are involved. Great colors/sharpness and detail! Euphorbia thompsonii seems truly special plant indeed!

This is just such a beautiful image. And technically so good. Other species of Euphorbia do occur in Southern Africa and are known to be very poisonous. Well done.
