Typhlops vermicularis Merrem, 1820 (Worm Snake)

A small snake of the family Typhlopidae which looks like an earthworm.
Its distribution covers the Balkans, the Caucasus region, Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Israel, Egypt, Iran. Iraq, Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
In Cyprus it is not uncommon at the lowlands (below 600m)
It is a burrowing snake found under stones and logs. It is feeds on ants and termites.

Hello Christodoulos,
Not a most beautiful creature, but a very interesting one. The picture itself is taken in an excellent manner, the view from above very well chosen and the sharpness is perfect. Amazing how this little snake shines like an earthworm. Fine natural shot.
