Cytinus hypocistis (L)

In my WS you can see another photo of this plant at the base of its host plant Cistus parviflorus.

Cytinus hypocistis is an erect fleshy parasite 3-13cm high, growing of the roots of Cistus species (Rockroses). It does not produce chlorophyll, but relies fully on its host plant. Its stems are unbranched clothed with crimson, carmine, scarlet or orange scales. The 5-10 yellow or white flowers form dense terminal heads.
It is a widespread species throughout the Mediterranean region.
In Cyprus Cytinus hypocistis is a locally common species found mainly in garigue in Febuary-May.

Good image of this parasite plant with lovely/colorful flowers, I like the one in the workshop more than this. tfs.

Hello Christodoulos,
A fascinating parasitic plant that does not produce its own chlorophyll. Than you for sharing that information together with this beautiful image with its lovely colours, excellent definition and good DOF.
May you have a peaceful Easter. Best wishes.

Impresionantes colores y bellos contrastes. Quizás demasiado acercada la imagen,
lo que hace que la luz esté al límite... aunque con esos tonos de fondo es difícil
de controlar y más en esta auténtica miniatura.
Un buen trabajo tal como nos tienes acostumbrados. Interesante especie.
Saludos Christodoulos: Josep Ignasi.

Hello Christodoulos,
Excellent picture of this parasite, in Catalonia is a common species.
TFS & best regards.
