[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Many butterflies cannot be identified with certainty unless the pattern of the underside is examined.

This applies to a certain extent to the Paphos Blue (Glaucopsyche paphos). However, as it is the smallest species of blue butterfly on Cyprus and as it is the only species of blue with a 1 mm -wide out black outer margin it can readily be identified without seeing the undersides of the wings.

This is a male: the blue upper surface is hinted in this shot. The female is entirely brown except for a blue tinge to the body.

This species appears to be fairly common in Western Cyprus when we were there. It is enedemic to Cyprus, i.e., it does not occur anywhere else in the world.

ISO 200
taken with the camera hand-held at a distance of about 2 meters.
Cropped by about 30%

Goodness, even the telephoto with extention produces great macros with the 400D. I think I have to get one, they're on special here now. I don't think I can resist any longer Ivan and its all your fault :).
Great sharpness here. I could be really critical and say the DOF is a touch shallow, but only half a stop I think. Its great, you got plenty of good results on your trip (I think I said that before to either you or Ulla).
Great work

Hello Ivan,
you show us a picture with great sharpness, and details.
The colours are natural and good, too. The sunlight gives you the chance to have a good F-stop here. The BG is okay.

Hi Ivan,

Excellent shot of this tiny BF
Superb compo with lovely colours and Perfect sharpness

Hi Ivan

Superb shot of the Paphos Blue, its a lovely composition and a fine pose, the detail is so clear on my monitior I wouldn't be suprised if it opened its wings, very bice colours and lighting sat against a great blurred BG.

Regards Hilary :o)

Hello Ivan,
probably, this is the first presentation of this endemic species at TN. Superb picture to show the specificities of this small Lycaenide butterfly. The black spots on the forewing underside are really prominent. Thank you for posting this nice picture of the species, in particular, because it is not considered in many books on Europen butterflies.
Best wishes, Peter

This is so pretty! Beautiful butterfly and you show off all its details. It looks wonderful on the yellow flower and with the green bg.
