When I posted the alba (Swedish and C. European) race of the Yellow Wagtail the other day I mentioned that I was going to share shots of two other races. I also mentioned that the 11 different races are told apart by the colour of the head.

This is the race known as superciliaris. The name refers to the striking white eyebrow through the almost black head. This is a male.

It is a summer visitor to parts of SE Russia. Like alba it must have spent the winter in tropical Africa, since we came across it in W.Cyprus.

The lighthouse area in Paphos is not only famous for its Roman remains: it is also well-known for the migrant birds of passage that first land here to feed up on their way north. This wagtail is on its way NE.

ISO 200
This image was heavily cropped, as it was taken at a distance of about 10 meters.
After size reduction the image was sharpened and treated for noise using Neat Image.

Hi Ivan,

What a beautiful bird this is! The colors are wonderful. Good details and a lovely setting. You are giving me a good education on birds! Thank you.

Hi Ivan, I admire you for the hard work you do to show us all this wagtails! Few day ago I had the posibility to see M. cinerea (I supose), in my mountainous short trip, and I saw how dificult is to take a very good image with this bird. But the final satisfaction deserve the effort.

Hi, Ivan.
Nice bird and well composed. But it's lack of details. I read that you have heavily cropped and neatimaged. I did not know how you have done this exactly, but try not to destroy noise on bird. With ISO 200 yellow not in shadow must be rather clean. With large cropping noise is usually better to destroy before cropping, otherwise you will get too much noise after cropping.

Hello Ivan,
Brautiful colors and nice composition, the heavy cropping hurt the sharpness a bit, but it's great to see the difference, thanks Ivan.
