Forficula auricularia Linnaeus 1758. On grape vine
European earwig

Forficula auricularia is a common and well known insect of the family Forficulidae, order Dermaptera
It is reddish brown in colour, with a flattened and elongate body, 13-14 mm in length. Like all earwigs it has a characteristic pair of 'pincers' or forceps at the tip of the flexible abdomen. Both sexes have these pincers; in males they are large and very curved, whereas in females they are straight

Forficula auricularia is native to Europe, western Asia, and northern Africa, but has been introduced to North America, Australia and New Zealand.
It is an omnivorous species, feeding on a wide variety of plant and animal matter. Although its predatory habits somewhat offset its phytophagous behaviour, on occasion it can inflict significant injury to vegetables, fruit, and flowers.

In Cyprus Forficula auricularia is a very common and widespread species.

Hello Christodoulos,
Stunning image of this little Earwig. I don't know if I've ever seen an earwig posted on TN before, but this is certainly an outstanding shot of one. Detail, exposure and DOF couldn't be any finer. Composition is attractive and colors are true and natural. Well done!!

Nice photo! It's a beautiful animal and you have really captured its beauty (not for all to see).
