Lasiommata megera is a butterfly in the family Nymphalidae (Subfamily: Satyrinae) with a wingspan of 40-50mm. Its range includes almost all of Europe, North Africa, Turkey and the Middle East. Through Iran and Iraq it extends to Turkmenistan. The population in Cyprus has been placed in the eastern Mediterranean subspecies Lasiommata megera lyssa (Hübner, 1823).
